can't re-install IL 2
#1

Hi all, hate to do this but my first post is a cry for help.

After a load of trouble trying to get Tir4fun working withmods I had to uninstall IL2. Now I can't re-install I've cleared the registry of UBI stuff and run the securom removal tool. But when I try and install I get an error 0x80040707 followed by access denied.

Any thoughts?

If all else fails, you can usually install the game to an entirely different computer.

Then you can copy the entire game folder back to your own computer by using a separate hard disk, a removable USB stick or some other type of movable storage medium.

It's a bit of a roundabout way, but it might help you get around the problem so that you can at least play the game.

This is also a good opportunity to advise making a copy of your first clean install. Just copy the entire folder and keep in a safe place. That way, when something goes wrong (and it always will sooner or later), you can make a copy of your clean install and start afresh.

Similar problem happened to me.

I solved it by using Revo Uninstaller to locate hidden parts of the old installation.
This is freeware http://www.revouninstaller.com/

Use it at your own risk. It tampers with your registry files.
I ran it on the "moderate" setting, which includes an extended registry scan.

Hmm Revo didn't find anything, but thanks for the link, it'll come in handy soon enough I'm sure.

I'm Windows XP SP3, sorry, schoolboy error not mentioning that, also I

think I've got the european version.

Installing on another computer sounds like my remaining alternative, will I need to point the registry towards it or something?

Thanks everybodyfor the replies, what a great community. I'll set about Tir4fun when I'm reinstalled!
