Carrier Catapult mod version b4 (updated 3/14/2009)

Mailman,

I'll just put this out there and hopefully you will try it. I'm the biggest FPS freak in here I bet and I have
some tweaks for you. Your system is a middle grade system and your settings for IL-2 are MAXED.
I have 2@ 9800 GTX+ cards and run a similar conf.ini but some things should be changed IMHO.

Number 1 is the most important. Download a program called nHancer. It will setup your cards drivers
to match what is on IL-2 and other games. Google it you shouldn't have any problem finding it. If
you use it now great, if you don

Updated B3 version will be out soon.

Tenitive addition to b3 version below.

Version b3 adds more power to the catapult, and catapult adjusts its power based on total loaded weight of the aircraft. Adds optional CatapultBoost parameter for dogfight and single-player missions. Fixes problem where catapult did not work on USS Princeton and USS Belleau Wood.

There is a parameter 'CatapultAllow 0' that you can put in the [Mods] section of the mission (.mis) file, which prevent all catapults from operating the mission. The chocks will work as they normally would without the mod.

In dogfight and single-player missions you can set the parameter 'CatapultBoost 1' in the [Mods] section of mission file. This will increase the power of the catapult by approximately 25 percent. This gives you roughly the same results as you would have in a carrier moving at 19 knots in a co-op mission.

The catapult should work on the CVL's, CVE's, Essex/Intrepid (both catapults), Illustrious, and the Graf Zeppelin (both catapults). From what I could see, none of the Japanese carriers in the game have catapults.

The AI don't know about the catapults yet, so they still take off the old-fashioned way.

Bump! Simply don't want to lose this in the lower parts of the page

Bump! 8)

Agreed, I think Fireball may release the b3 version this weekend he is just finishing up tuning the cat. You guys are going to be happy. Stay tuned!!

Amazing mod, thanks Fireball. Big Grin

Downloaded and installed nHancer 2.45 for 32 bit system. Installed fine. Launched application. Splashscreen appears with version number and then I get an error message.

Error Reading XML file 'c:windows\system32\nvappps.xml': There is and error in XML document ( 3457,68 )

Any Ideas VF-51_Cobraj?

Works in Zekes vs Wildcats.

Corsair a little easier than running down the deck.

Not much advantage though without a little more power.

yeah, actually no advantage in the latest Beta... it needs 2x more power and ummphh at least...

Confusedhock:

read this:

(Corsair Carrier Take-off and weapons loadouts):
-------
Air Group 4, while aboard the USS Essex, operated with the first two carrier-based Corsair squadrons during WWII, VMF-124 and VMF-213. It is noteworthy also that VMF-124 was "the original F4U outfit

We getting Beta 3 today?? :!: please.. 8)

Mailman,

#1 make sure you are installing and running this as ADMIN or ADMIN rights on for you login.

#2 make sure you have MS .NET Framework 2.0 installed, download from MS if you don't (very important).

If that doesn't help replace nvapps.xml in nHancer folder with this one.

Let me know but one of these should do it. You may not have updated .NET framework is my guess. You can make sure you have an updated:
MS .NET Framework 1.1
MS .NET Framework 1.1 hotfix KB929729 (if you have Vista 32, check for hotfix number if you use XP)
MS .NET Framework 2.0
and even install MS .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 (if you use SP1 Vista) from MS website. Look for XP version if you use XP.

I would recommend all listed .NET versions.

Let me know how this works for you.

Mailman,

In response to your FPS lag for so many secs could be a couple things.

How many Carriers are on this map you are using? and are they close to each other. Can you send me the mission? Cobraj (at) ptd.net

Send .properties and .mis files.

I'll test it out too and see if I get any lag.

Ramstein Wrote:We getting Beta 3 today?? :!: please.. 8)

I hope so! It's actually beta 4 now. I tweaked some settings just this morning. Some of the good guys at Air Group 51 are testing it as we speak. If they don't have any major complaints, I'll try to post it later today. If that's not gonna happen for some reason, I'll let you know.

Just so expectations aren't unrealistic...I posted earlier in this thread (somewhere on page 9) that my goal for this is to make it as historically correct as possible, and from what I could gather that would mean being able to accelerate a fully-loaded F4U up to about 65 knots on a no-wind, static carrier.

In dogfight and single-player missions the mission builder can set a parameter 'CatapultBoost' in the [Mods] section of mission file. This will increase the power of the catapult by approximately 30 knots. This gives you roughly the same results as you would have in a carrier moving at 30 knots in a co-op mission. So with the 95-100 knots of the boosted catapult you may (barely) get a fully-loaded F4U off the deck of a static carrier.

But since the CatapultBoost parameter has to be set by the mission builder, don't expect to be able tonight to go out on any of the Hyperlobby dogfight servers and be able take off a static carrier with 4000 pounds of bombs.

But anyway, I hope you like it!

Fireball

Sounds great Fireball!

Thanks for your work on this- it will be one of the coolest mods this year 8)

Cheers
