HELP!!!! GAME WON'T LOAD
#1

Hello everyone,
I was a very happy man till today in the norning; my favourite sim ran smoothly, all the goodies included (QMB plus, UI I.I, U.I. I.I. patch, etc) everything I wanted to use was there; then I decided to download shippack 2 and followed the (not too clear) instructions. Disaster struck.
The game would not load after the initiall screen (AAA UI I.I, loading to 70%); I followed instructions provided by Sir Noppes (I thank him for his immediate assistance), reloaded UI I.I, nothing! I decided to de-install the game and reinstall it altogether; then I patched it to 4.08 and loaded UI I.I (I followed all instructions as I had previously done with success). Nothing again! I can see all my favourite missions and campaigns in the games folder but I cannot "open" it. What I have done was to install the original version (4.07) and then proceed with updates. I am quite desperate, having spent days and weeks creating missions.
Any clues anyone? Please assist!!!!!
Obliges as always

Maybe if you uninstall the game and then manualy delete the IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 folder(storing a backup of your missions folder or PaintSchemes or whatever)
And then reinstalling everything.

I recently had to reinstall myself and I notice my IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 folder had everything still in it after uninstalling the game.

Hope this helps.

The thought crossed my mind; what impresses me is that after unistalling and reinstalling the game I can see all my old files, missions and mods in the folder. I shall give it a try. Thanks for the suggestion

Back again; the problem looks like involving the "run.exe" of my game; I inserted the DVD-Rom and I did not get the IL2 picture with options (install/start/readme/uninstall). In both previous attempts to uninstall the game I also proceeded manually (through the windows programs remover tool). I also recall that when I tried to install shipack 2 (the cause of the disaster) I changed some ini.files in my files folder and also the "objects" folder in my mods/com/maddox/il2 folder. Can it be that this causes the problem? If yes, aren't these files supposed to be replaced whwn I reinstall the game?

Well the stock game doesn't have a files folder or a MODS folder so reinstalling shouldn't change anything in those. But reloading UI 1.1 should have overwritten whatever was in them. Maybe if you take those folders out of the main game folder then try to reload UI 1.1 you can get an unedited version of the ini.files and object folder.

OK, I uninstalled the game, then totally removed the IL21946 folder from my hard disc; then reinstalled the game, which runs smoothly in its original, "clean" version (4.07m). Before proceeding with the sequence, patch to 4.08m - install UI I.I - install UI I.I patch - then all mods I have stored, do I need to install wrapper or AC installer or anything else first?

I think the wrapper and AC installer comes with the UI 1.1 so after patching to 4.08m all you need to do is install the UI 1.1 and then you can place any of your old mods that you want to keep in your MODS folder.

Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin
Back home and back in business! I followed the sequence as you suggested, patched up to 4.08m, then loaded UI I.I, then UI I.I. patch, then my missions, paintschemes, samples, mods etc folders and IT WORKS!!!! I tried it twice to be sure; all my favourites are back, so far I can see no problem (the QMB plus did not load but I recall I had faced and solved this problem again and there is a relevant thread in the site)
Harnage, I can't express my gratitude! If you ever pass from Thessaloniki, mail me and I'll buy you a beer (beers!!!!)
Cheers
