I have found that 181.20 WHQL is the best driver for my 8800GT. Drivers beyond this one seem to slow my video card. I went through this when I had a 7950GT. I think the problem stems from Nvidia making new drivers for their newest cards, but giving them backwards compatibility with old cards. Unfortunately, they are not optimized for the old cards and often hurt their performance.

I've have downloaded for my GT8600 and most of my games has up to 20% better performance. Far Cry 2 even went up to 38% performance boost, so this is one of those drivers that works a charm on one pc and not on the other...

Funny to ear that, maybe I should give it a try again and play more with the settings...

Pilots yes, the new Nvidia Driver cited in the topic, have a terrible drop in FPS I am owner of a Nvidia GeForce 8800 XFX 512mb, with the previous driver was spinning everything smooth as oil.
So it was not my imagination, these drivers do not give a good longevity to the game.
Excuse me for my English Googleliano

Hi! I've a GTX 280 and I'm returned to 178.24 (75fps normally with drops to 65). With the latest 182.08 I've had heavy fps losses (34-41 normally with 56 average)

After testing all the new nvidia drivers exept the new one i went back to the 178.24 driver. this driver seems to be the one that works the best on my computer pluss the computers with the 8800 cards that friends of mine are using.
One that changed it back to the 178.24 got ride of the stutter and low FPS after removing the 182.08.

The 180+ drivers might have a better FPS in far cry and games alike but this doesnt help alot when it accually slows down IL2.Exept if you allready play these other games to then its a trade off.

My system is intel core duo E8500. 2 gb of ram. XFX 8800 gt.1 gb of ram. Winxpsp3

You might also want to try one of the 5dlls pack as this has alot to say also and can be found here on AAA.

Texture Filtering-quality....quality(if you se it to high quality, you will lose significant amount of FPS with no difference in visuals)

Multi Display....Multi display performance
maximum prerendered frams....3

No but in aempirical way: with the same settings (of course on the same computer)...about minus 20/30 fps. The same thing with Armed Assault

As soon as I loaded the new drivers, and started the game, the screen went blank and the computer wouldnt respond. Resulting in a system crash and a reset was preformed.and the old drivers reinstalled .Gent's be shure if you get one of these new cards the factory only sets the fans to run at 40% and thats not nearly enough to cool when gaming.

hi to everybody.I have made some experiments.Risol.1280x1024 il462409b1 odded no AAAui + and tracer+vas explosion+buffymodded+alot hit flash+smokefirejay land3landdet3 water3 effect 1 dll modded. 1) my nvidia control panel 2) general psycho control panel. Driver 178,24 1) avg 56 max 84 2) avg 51 max 84 smooth over town to low altitude; driver 180,48 1) avg 64 max 77 2) avg64 max82 to lot stutter low altitude; 181,20 1) avg 38 max 70 2) avg 34 max 66 not playable for lag and stutter. I also have a defect with horizontal black lines on the footstep of flight in asphalt with every driver.I think that every person has to find alone the solution unfortunately and this could explain because one has hit of fps on a mod and others no.
Here my nvidia individual setting driver 180,48
Vsync on
triple buffer on
threaded optim on
text filter off
text filt qual quality
text filt lod bias allow
text filter anisotr applica controlled
multi displ single disp perf
max prerend 3
force mipmap bilin
ext limit off
error rep off
conf text clamp off
aa transpar off
aa mode exclude
aa gamma corr on
aa filter 16X

bug of the regulation nvidia of the monitor: activates the digital hulling at 100%when you touch the other cursors, solution digital cursor avant and back after the other regulations.
Other ideas? Experiments. I hope that they serve these news.Sorry for automatic english. Ciao a tutti

I've had the same experiences here with my 9600GT. Any drivers newer than 180.48 halves my fps in Il-2. I tried changing just about every setting I could find but nothing would help. Does'nt seem to effect any other games that I play like this.
