As much as we'd love to have her in the game, the plane most probably won't be released in it's present form or any derivatives thereof. Not as auto installer, nor as manual install...

It is a frankenplane, and we're moving away from those. But if someone is interested in making her in 3dmax, I'll help all I can to get her done.*Wishful thinking...?*

This is the ultimate new aircraft for me, and I will love whoever makes her for our great sim 'till the day I get a better one in a later sim

hs123 is also a frankenplane, just like few others, it is in mods download section. I think it should be released, I'm sure there are many users who would download it.

It will be great to have a Barracuda, even in beta stage, but I will not count with this

Don't count on it getting done in it's present shape. If someone takes her into 3dmax, maybe... but otherwise...

I really hope it will be released. It was well started and having some more carrer plane for the RAF would be cool Big Grin
*Hope it wont have the FM of the avanger or the b5n.... :x

So, Ranwers, can you release Barracuda just like the MiG15?

To my mind there's nothing intrinsically wrong with frankenplanes. Obviously, as this is a historical sim, I'd like them to be as accurate as possible, but then... They are cobbled together from bits of other aircraft to resemble the intended aeroplane, and although the work that goes into them can't be denied, can we really expect them to be exact? No, of course not.

We then have to ask modders to tackle 3dsMax and produce a work of art. Like everyone else, I'll probably have a religious experience when these projects finally fill my hard drive, but good things come to those who wait.

So do we sit back and wait for digital perfection, or do we accept a slightly awkward rendition in the meantime? You see, as much as I want fantastic reproductions of the real thing there just isn't ever going to be enough variety, so if the frankenplane is halfway tolerable, why not? It'll do until someone makes a better one.

It brings up the question of replacement aircraft though. That needs to be done a little more carefully. There are combinations that work ok - I can live with the Fairey battle replacing non-japanese Kates. I find it more difficult to accept losing an existing aircraft/nation combination simply to add another model. Is it possible to add single nation models? So that, for instance, the Hs123 frankenplane only works for Germany instead of non-italians? Or does that block other choices?

If there's a conflict, I do think frankenplanes should have their own slot. That however, involves something more than juggling parts, and for that reason we shouldn't lower our expectations when creating them.

In a sense, only the best will do. Keep up the good work, and if your frankenplane looks the part and doesn't interefere with anything else, it's good enough for me.

I have a strange feeling something might happen with the barracuda within a reasonable timespan, just have patience...

Anyway it's been determined many a time that frankenplanes can be implemented either as new slot or simply as a mesh replacement; but the standard that this site wants to keep is very high and that's why the barracuda probably won't see the light of day as a frankenplane.

It's a very complex plane to build out of bits and pieces and would require lots of extra parts to be created in 3dmax and imported especially for it...
