FJ-2 [WIP-repaint]
#1

The XF-86 has been out for a week and I have already hacked it . the skin was done yesterday but then I decided I did not like some of the panel lines and rivets so I heavily modified the ones that came with the template (I think Peter D made)

Perhaps you could give us a better view of the "modifications" you made.

The only thing I see different is the color which anyone can do with the template.

Case in point.

Are you going to upload it as the layers or just the bmp?

bad please straiten me out here. Are you just being an arse or are you being serious? Because it sound as if you think I am trying to steal credit for some other mates work.

Err, I was being serious. To me about about seeing how you set it up; I make skins as well but it takes quite a long time for me to pump them out and seeing what others do helps my method. I've done skins before based off of others, but I always give credit to who created the base image.

Regarding making skins for this F-86 i've got 7 done so far in a matter of 2-3 days. I think the easiest and best way of doing it is to use lots and lots of layers in general. Every added bit u make do it in a new layer and then view it in il2 and come back again to edit the layer. Once you've done one wing you can replicate the layer onto the other wing etc... So you will always get even wings and you don't have to draw it twice. Remember the tail needs 10 degree rotation to left or right for your lines to be straight on the plane. The UV mapping helps a lot when you don't know where the next bit is etc as it is mapped somewhere else. Put the opacity of the layer on 50% and put it above everything else and then save what you have done and view it in il2 again and you can use the UV lines as guide lines of where to paint etc....

I'm no good with lighting so for a general bare metal effect if you put down the opacity of the folder that you are painting in (eg. 75%) then you will get that metal effect on your plane.

Hope this helps.

Bad Grant,
Do you have a website that you have posted these skins to? Seems like the process for getting them linked here is either slow or broken at the moment.

Thank you, it is helpful. I'm still learning how to use GIMP. Although it makes things so much easier since I used to make skins in MS Paint and that was a nightmare.

I'm starting a camo scheme for the 86, anything I should know about creating the curves formed between the colors?

Thanks again.
