A6m cheat sheet
#1

I was wondering if some frequent zero jockies might give me some tips.

What are the best prop pitch settings to use in various situations? (especially combat) and how often should the pitch be adjusted?.

Tips for trim settings would also be appreciated (i usually set the elevators down about 6 notches? i have a messed up joystick, so this could be reletive.)

I've been playing IL-2 a long time, and i almost always rock Zekes. I'm just new to using complex engine management. I know how it all works, i'm just lazy to optimise things myself Tongue

Eager to milk my m5' to it's fullest.

Their are some other people here that are much better at flying the Zeke then I'm...but that said, here are a few things I have picked up along the way:

The zeke is better at medium & low elevation. The zeke performs better at medium to low velocity (speed). The zeke is a great turning aerocraft, however in an early war scenario is might have a speed advantage over some aerocraft...so you can use a hit & run tactic. That said, ALWAYS turn into an attacking aerocraft-never run. The A6M was designed with offensive tactics in mind so always attack. Attack, attack, attack... As far as the engine settings go: I set prop pitch at 90 & radiator at 6. You "can" leave it their all day...

I assume that you have read "ND's aircraft reference guide"

Thanks man. If thats the guide that comes with IL-2 1946, i've read it. I don't think it says anything about prop pitch and such though. Or optimum Rpm.

I'm just fine as far as tactics and what its capable of.

I really just want to see how far i can push it in terms of performance.

I know optimum speed for combat is around 350kph. But i also know from reading real life combat reports that i should be able to have less trouble keeping up with P-39's than i'm used to, for instance.

The A6M tends to do best below 15,000 feet. It has excellent turning and climbing capabilities, but is not as good as most U.S. fighters in a dive.
