[MOD] Spookie's Default Markings
#1

I've been working on replacing all the default markings in Il-2. I set out with the goal to make the new defaults better than the existing ones as well as the markings in the old MAT manager (which I was growing tired of filling up my cache folder). In the end, I think I succeeded, and I think most of them look more like part of the skin instead of something slapped on top of it. So far I've done all of the national insignia, many of the fuselage numbers, and all the Jagdgeschwader emblems and tactical symbols. Feel free to comment on suggestions or corrections!

Please see the readme file for a more detailed description of the contents as well as the installation process.

Warning: You must have McWolf's Decalshine to use these markings. It is available here:

Thanks, I was just about to PM you. I would have worked on it a little earlier, but I had to get my fix of Clarkson and Top Gear before bed. 8)

I guess I'll show a few Russkies and a couple others before this thread gets flooded with pics from me.

Thank you very much, Spookie, that's another big improvement over McWolf's decalshine, now our birds at last have a "natural look"

Did you fix the P-51-Ds and P-47s?

Also, you said you have to McWolfs decal shine. I dl'd it but it is just one file with absolutely no instructions with what to do with it.

Judging from the screenshots, this mod is another "must have" that will add a lot to the look of the game. Big Thanks!

About the P-51 and P-47: In order to fix those problems I would need to edit the class files for the individual planes, which is beyond the scope of this mod and my current abilities. Sorry.

As for the second part, which file are you talking about (McWolf's or mine)? I checked my download, and the readme is in there. All you have to do for installation though is overwrite McWolf's PAINTSCHEMES folder with mine. You're just overwriting some of the TGAs and adding a few files. Please read the readme, though. It has a detailed description of the features (some of which you may not want depending upon the historical time period). Let me know if you have any further problems.

They look wonderful mate and as good or even better than the ones from IL-2 Mat Manager!

Another thing I very much like about this mod is that it saves so much space on my IL-2 install as to opposed when using Mat Manager which would take up several hundred MBs.

Highly appreciated and top notch work!
