[UPDATED] New MG Sounds for early BF109s (7.92mm)
#1

!S

This is a new sound set for the early 109's which use 7.92mm MGs. This will NOT change the sounds for the MG131 13mm that is used by G and later model 109s. This is a nice effect, and sounds better than the original 7.92mm UI sound, imho. Big Grin

Hope you enjoy this!

7.92mm MG Sound Mod

And per request, here is a "sped-up" and faster version of these sounds for those who want it:

Faster Looping 7.92mm MG Sounds

Installation:

This is a self installer. But, if you're using a 64bit OS, you'll have to browse and extract this to "IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\MODS\FW-190A3\Samples".

Other OS's like standard Windows XP don't have to do this. The only other reason to browse to the extract location is if you have IL-2 installed in some other directory, instead of "program files". For all others who installed IL-2 normally, just let it self install.

Have fun! All feedback appreciated, and more sounds will be coming soon! If you need the volume or anything changed, just let me know.

Great! Glad you're enjoying it! I think it's amazing how much sound effects can change the experience.

Can't wait to hear some more feedback from other users, and I hope everyone feels just a little more deadly with these!

Self install seems to point at C:/.......Focke Wulf 190/samples...can this be right?

Yes, it is! Big Grin Trust me! It took me a while to figure out how to change the 109E and F gun sounds, because they are controlled by the samples in that folder. So when you replace the old sounds in the 190A-3 folder, it will give you these new sounds for your 7.92mm machine guns on planes like early 109s, Stukas, etc...

The self installer is directed properly, unless you're on a 64bit OS, or you have IL-2 installed somewhere besides "Program Files". If you've got a normal IL-2 installation, like 90% of us do, it will hook you up just right! 8)

Sorry if anyone tried to download this within the last few hours and it didn't work...

I had accidentally set it to "private" on Mediafire! But it's available again. Sorry if this caused an inconvenience for any of you!

If you are running the "Unified Installer #1" you will need to place the sound samples in the "IL2 1946/files/samples" location.

Just one quick question, please: What mg is sampled to get the sound? The rate of fire sounds slower then the "stock sounds" I'm running...Thanks!

What do you mean?

This does *NOT* go into your Files\Samples folder. That goes for both the UI 1.0 and 1.1. If you put it there, you will modify the wrong sounds.

The self-installer IS directed properly for all standard IL-2 installations. If you're using a 64bit OS, or something like Mac, you'll need to browse and extract it manually to:

...MODS\Fw-190A-3\Samples

Trust me, that's where it goes! Big Grin Took me a while to figure it out, but that's how it works.

Yes, the rate of fire does sound a bit slower, but it's synced better with the guns than the "stock sound". The old sound kinda sounded like someone tearing some paper bags apart. Heheh!

Many people have deleted the samples and presets folder inside FW-190A-3 folder because its really of no use if you think about it... all the sounds are THE SAME as they are in Files/samples ... they're just there for specifically that plane... and since they're there, you can't really edit te sounds where the rest of them are.

So from many standpoints, he's right. Its more convenient this way. These are interesting sounds, but I agree with chas.. the sound doesn't seem to accompany the images rate of fire...

Well, I wasn't aware that people were deleting the "samples" folder in the 190A-3 folder. If that's the case, I suppose it would work fine in Files/Presets (but ONLY if you've deleted the 190A-3's samples folder).

Sorry if that's caused any confusion, and thank you guys for clarifying that. But if you haven't deleted the "samples" and "presets" folder from ...MODS\Fw-190A-3, then that's where it goes...

I'll take a look at the sound and rate of fire right quick. If it appears off, as you say, I'll get this fixed and updated right away.

Thanks again for your feedback!

I don't have a Fw-190A-3 file.

You don't? And you're using the UI? Or just the sound mod + activator?

Look in "Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\MODS\", and you should see the folder named Fw190A-3 in there. If you don't, then I guess you don't have the Unified Installer then.

So here's the prescription:

If you have the Unified Installer, and the Fw-190A-3 which comes along with it, follow the original instructions, as stated.

If you don't have it because you are only using the sound mod + activator, you deleted it, or for any other reason, then stick this in your "1C\Files\Samples" folder (or however the directories go).

But I figure that 90% or more of us have the UI and a standard installation, so the original instructions will work fine for the majority of us.

Ok, sorry about any confusion this has caused. I'm going to check these sounds and their syncing with the guns in game now. Would'a got to it earlier, but I'm cookin some steaks!

UI 1.0? I'm pretty sure the Fw190A-3 came with it. That's odd. Or was there a prior UI to 1.0, like a beta UI I'm not aware of?

Well anyways, you should download the new UI 1.1 if/when you can. It's got a lot of wonderful improvements and additions! You're missing out, bro!
