Tempests are very loud.

I guess this isn't a bug as such, and I realise I can adjust the volume of the Tempest engine in the .prs file. But for the next UI (whenever that happens to come out) would it be possible to reduce the volume of the temest, both inside and outside of the aircraft? It does bother me that it is almost impossible to sneak up on anyone when they can hear my engine from a couple of miles away... over the sound of their own engine. While the Napier is a beastly thing, I can't imagine it is so much louder than other engines.

(Don't mind GunnyMac Smile He thinks we're all in the military -or maybe in some repressed society? and should put up and shut up! lol!)

Thank you HispanoSuiza. I have adjusted the volume of the Tempest on my own system. The trouble with the current volume levels is that online people don't need to even keep an eye out for Tempests... all they need to do is listen.

Hmm...

I tried a quick mission in a FW190A-8/A-9 (it purrs) with a Tempest and then a Spit XIV as my co-flight.

I flew next to and then slowly in front of both co-flights. Throttled at about 50-60%

I started hearing a barely discernable sound when the co-flight was about 200m away (behind) and about 250m off my wing.

This was as I was twisting my head to position the co-flight. Facing forward, where the sound of the engine is "stereo" so to speak. I couldn't hear a thing.

Honestly, I would probably start seeing tracers or hearing hits if I let an enemy Aircraft get that close.

Probably a better test would be to have 2 live pilots try the same test at combat throttle settings.

(BTW, If GunnyMac were a real 'Gunny' and you were in the military, He would tell you to shutup but would take care of you nonetheless.)

Oh, That is a little bizarre... are you using the UI1.1? most of the guys in my squad complain when I'm in the tempest that it is all they can hear - and I guess it should sound just as loud with AI and human players alike, so it is a good test, assuming the AI were at least at cruise power... I guess I can still sneak up on you then

Maybe it is dependent on the games audio settings. I use 44100 sample rate and 'full' audio quality.

To be honest, If I were in the millitary Gunny, or anyone else above my rank would beat me to within an inch of my life.... I'm lazy, ill-disciplined and not so good with authority figures

Yeah it's pretty goddamned loud. I can hear a UI 1.1 tempest from 5+km out from a spitfire cockpit.

Those new griffon-spitfires are the same. My master volume is down to 10% for the first time ever. Ah well, never mind, dig out the .prs files.... :?
