Open gl issue
#1

Hi all,

I,ve been here before with this 'perfect mode' problem i'm having and taken all the advice read all the posts and tried several different confi ini, nvidea control panal combinations to no avail. I've just noticed this in my confi ini

[GLPROVIDER]
GL=dx8wrap.dll

[GLPROVIDERS]
Open GL=Opengl32.dll
DirectX=dx8wrap.dll

Where it says [GLPROVIDER] shouldn't that read Open GL=Opengl32.dll instead of GL=dx8wrap.dll?
I've tried just changing the line without any affect, so does anyone know what needs to be changed/ replaced or altered on my rig or in my game root folder to point the [GL PROVIDER] to the right path, i think this could be the source of my perfect mode problem. I'm running a duel core with 9800gtx and 4gb of ram so should handle perfect. Any help on this much appreciated TIA

Same card on XP with 2Gb RAM - my bit of the ini reads;

Code:
[GLPROVIDER]
GL=Opengl32.dll

[GLPROVIDERS]
Open GL=Opengl32.dll
DirectX=dx8wrap.dll

Yours is running in DX mode instead of OpenGl - you could try changing the line to read like you did but after you save it, right click on it and select properties and put a tick in the read only checkbox - that should stop anything changing it back to DX mode. See how ya go with that.

Dunno what OS you're running but if it's Vista make sure your game is NOT installed to the default C:\Program Files.

I've had the same problem running 2 BFG7900GTX cards in SLi with a 64bit dual core setup, to get it running on perfect, I run the IL setup program from windows and selected OpenGL and Maximum settings for the graphics. Then before running IL1946 I right clicked in windows to bring up the Nvidia control panel, from there you can run different settings for loads of games but I found it was best and the quickest to simply put the main controls ( before advanced settings ) onto Best Quality, not Best Performance. Then simply run IL1946, it should already be set to the highest resolution and have put Perfect mode on and Detailed Clouds, if not from there on they should simply be a click away.

One word of warning, I've noticed that my graphics cards remember previous settings from other programs that I have been on before IL1946 and this can affect the quality of the graphics, if so simply restart your machine and this seems to clear the settings to default ie; Best Quality and not some advanced setting that the program or the Nvidia cards had decided to be suitable for the previous program, but this could just be a BFG7900GTX thing?

Anyway hope this helps, and you'll be enjoying the lovely shiny water soon!

Thanks for your help guys but nothing is working and after several months of messing about with it i think i can almost definately conclude that the problem is not in the set up of the game and so lays somewhere else, maybe drivers or registery or something so now begins the long trawl through my system to try and find the cause, i built my own pc so proberly my fault somewhere even though everything else i set up on it works just fine. Was just hoping it wouldn't come to this but i must have perfect mode to finish my reefs projects

Ziggy,
Someone asked the same question over at UBI forums, reponse was;
Quote:Switch off 'Extension Limit' in the NVidia Control Panel...
May or may not help you - hope so :wink:
