So I Just put a clean install of IL-2 1946 on my computer, then, patched it to 4.09 then downloaded ultra pack, HOwerver, the game wont start. I have windows Vista, so I tried running as administrator (I hate having to do that.) I dont know what Im doing wrong.
Ill read it, but im not new, ive been playing il-2 since just about when it came out
So I read through it, and, it looks like I did everything exept back up every single install that I did, because, I dont want to use up 20 gigs of disk space. I dont see that being my primary problem, but im going to wipe the game and try downloading it again.
I remember having to down load the old AAA mod pack like 4 times before I got it to work.

Try re-runing the il2setup.exe first.
Sounds like another case of a corrupted conf.ini file.
Most likely the graphics resolution is more than your monitor will allow.
You can find the setup in the root directory of IL-2.
S!
Okay, I think I know what it might have been, Im not sure yet, but this is my theory.
I didnt verify my Direct2Drive download, I just rushed right in and put the Ultrapack on it.
So basically what ive done this far, is deleted everything, I unstalled the game using the uninstall wizzard, then went and compleatly deleted the Ubisoft file, in the program files.
Im going to in the next few days download and apply 4.09 then try the ultrapack again.
As a side note, is the Radar Distance Adjusting Gunsight in the Either HSFX or U.P.?

They Gyro sight is, but the self ranging sight is not.
Damn, well that sucks,
Okay so here is an update on my problems,
I downloaded and installed 4.09m but, a warning poped up telling me that it may not have been installed properly, because im running Vista, and it may have compatablillity issues.
I clicked the button that said, reinstall using recommended settings, after a few seconds I fired the game up, and it looks like 4.09m loaded properly.
Going to try to upload Ultrapack now.
Okay, so I loaded Ultrapack, and it still crashes at 5 percent.
Also, Im running the U.P. Update/Restore tool now, it looks promising, It Said, it found two problems, and is in the process of checking everything out.
Turns Out I forgot to apply the special patch for the Direct2Drive version
Embarassing.
