Anybody seen this before?

Hello,

It seems I encountered a graphics problem. I was just chugging along in my Me-262, minding my own business, when this happened:

Any idea what this is? It happened first on the Berlin map, then on the Slovakia map, while playing, as well as during "Play Track" mode. I ran other games, such as Steel Fury, or T-34 vs Tiger, but they run fine, no problems. This leads me to believe that this is not a graphics card issue (ATI Radeon X600/550 in my case), but is IL-2-related, but maybe I am wrong?

Any help with this would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

RB

I have this sometimes too in the full mission builder.
I have an ATI X800GTO
This might be a driver problem

Hello I/JG27_Waggel,

Thanks for the reply. If this is a driver problem, what can be done about it? I checked the ATI site for driver updates over a year ago, and even then they didn't even have my card on there, or at least I didn't find it.
Could this have to do with recent map installs, such as Zuti's Slovenia map, or the Korea map?

Regards,

RB

By the way, was macht die Nordsee Karte? Need any help with that?

Hello!

Check what is your graphics card's temperature.
I have had some kind of problems and reason was that
system's temperature was too high.

Looks temperature related to me. Open your case and use a can of compressed air. Be sure to clean any heatsink fins. Dust bunnys love to live there and keep your heatsinks nice and warm, just what you don't need.
Also, hold a finger on any fan blade before dusting fans. Letting them free spin in the path of compressed air can possibly damage them.

bohr-r, drivers for your card are now considered "legacy drivers" by ATI. Here is a link to that driver:
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/w ... ng=English

Go down to just about the bottom of the page for the d/l link.

One thought, for not much money you could upgrade to a better card, not bleeding edge, but something a bit newer. Just saying.....

Propwash? From an Me262? 8)

open GL will cause more heat issues in this game than any thing else so prop wash your heat sinks and fans.
Also take the cover off you really don't need it as it does cause the internal system temps to come down when you do.

I've seen this sort of thing for many years with all sorts of games. The problem is that the polygons aren't being mapped correctly (a point is missing in the list). Yes, a graphics card running hot does cause this, but so does corrupted or faulty 3D files. I used to get this a lot in MSTS when I compiled models in TSM, usually because the model had a complex part structure that wasn't properly labelled.

Hello there !

Just have the same problem, but this only happens in Perfect mode WITH HardwareShaders=1 in the Conf.ini
I use to fly in PERFECT mode with hardware shaders =0.and there is no problem but the new features of some maps (e.g. GilB57 Channel) won't show up ! (I do not know why !),but anyway the landscape and far distance landscape details are still far stable than in Excellent mode.
YES you can have run PERFECT MODE without having to turn Hardware shaders = 1 in conf.ini (Open GL Mode.)

To be sure at 100% to avoid this problem just run the game in excellent mode.

I've been doing some trials and errors for some time now and I really have no solution.
As long as I am concerned there is nothing related to temperature.I also tried different drivers but without any succes.Maybe we could try OLD drivers from before all these SLI new drivers.

My system is P.4. 3.2 , 2Gb RAM, NVIDIA 7800GS AGP.

P.S. I noticed that when running in Perfect mode with Hardware Shaders=1, the setting Water=2 or 3 may induce more idiosyncrasies.

Hope these few lines and relections will be of some help to all of you suffering from this desase Big Grin

1# (A) Yeah, u probibly installed the new Core. DLL's? No 2# (B)- if not then u accedently did something in the NHancer that is NOT compatible with OpenGL or DirectX cards. No 3# © Your IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 game COULD be corrupted (Highly Doubted) No 4# (D)- Ur graphics card is outdated and needs to stay updated or has corrupted files- other than this i have never seen something so strange --- P.S. oh yeah, also check the "IL2Setup.exe" and check out the video section and test things out (turn them on and off and see the effects) and if u have NHancer do the SAME--

Hope it works

Hello,

Thanks everyone for your helpful comments. I did not reply to your comments immediately, because I wanted to implement the solutions you suggested and then play the game over a period of several days to see if things remained stable.
Those of you who suggested a temperature issue were probably right. After reading your posts, I promptly opened the cover of my PC and removed an entire colony of dust bunnies. There were a lot of them. Well, you know what they say about rabbits and breeding. But seriously, since I bought this computer, I had never cleaned it on the inside, which I will probably do more frequently from now on.
So far (knock on wood) the game runs fine again. No more modern art displays while flying.
Thanks, Boris the Spider for providing the download links for the drivers for my graphics card. Just as you suggested, I, too have been thinking about getting a better graphics card. However, I was a bit concerned that my computer could not handle it, especially in regard to processor speed. Please have a look at my system specs below.

AMD Athlon™ 64 Processor 3200+, 2.01 GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM.

Based on these specifications, which graphics card would you suggest to replace my ATI X550/600?

Thanks again for all your help.

Regards,

RB

Hi there, I read this tread a while ago, but had never seen this issue. Though having played around with my graphics settings (new PC) I found that if I had 'catalyst ai' enabled in the ATI control panel, when I looked at the sun I had a very similar result to your screenshots... though it seems you have solved your issue, just in case anyone stumbles across this thead with a similar problem - this might be the answer Wink
