Hurricane updates please

Is anyone working towards updating the Hurricane IIb? It can carry a pair of 250lb bombs which is fine but by the end of 1941 it could carry 500lb bombs

Quote:Mk IIB Hurri-Bomber
The Mk IIB saw the twelve gun wings finally become standard, with two extra .303 Browning machine guns located further down the wing. Of more significance was the addition of two bomb racks, down the wing from the landing gear. At first these were used to carry one 250 lb bomb each, increased to 500 lbs by the end of 1941. From the autumn of 1941 the Mk IIB was used to bomb small targets in occupied Europe.

And how about the IIE - a new wing which was universal, able to carry bombs, rockets drop tanks or cannons

[quote]Mk IIE
The Mk IIE saw the introduction of a universal wing that allowed the same aircraft to use 40 mm guns, drop tanks, bombs or rocket projectiles depending on circumstances. This made the Mk IIE much more flexible than earlier versions. It had a short lifespan

Sounds cool. But where could they be put to use? In the Far East? MTO?
either way, it'd be interesting to have them ingame (The IIE and IV)

AFAIK Mk.IIE is just an alternative designation for early series Mk.IV's.

Mk.IV was also the only RAF type to be heavily armored - not nearly as much as Il-2 or Hs-129 but way more than any other British plane.

It was mostly used in MTO, either armed with 2x303 + 2x40mm's (Mk.IVD) or more often 2x303 + 6 or 8 rockets (Mk.IVRP).

The hurri IIb improvement is so minor that it won't really see any effect in the game, as the ground targets pretty much die from anything above 250lbs in a single hit... Just practice a little, I doubt it's worth the many hours it takes to actually add a single bomb to it and do the FM changes to it.

The IIe, while sounding like a good idea, might be a little too niche and seeing as the IV is an improvement over the short lifespan of the IIe then it might be worth ditching the IIe in favor of the IV...

I remember there was discussion on wether to release the new hurri as a mk IId or a mk IV, and I believe the IId was chosen for practical reasons as well as for the forgotten status of the IId. Modding knowledge wasn't sufficient at the time to release a mk IV with mixed loadouts within the timescale we had planned to release a new plane... *remembers good times of testing the mk IId...*

Anyway, if anyone should decide to make one, there are lots of us here who'd love a mk IV

While we're on the subject of Hurricanes, here are a few more interesting variants to consider:

Mk.I early - canvas wings and a wooden prop, no armor.

Belgian Hurricane I - armed with 2x13.2mml FN Brownings + 2x.303

Yugoslav Hurricane I - canvas wings, no armor, but Mk.IA engine and prop (Rotol or de Haviland), armed with 8x7.92mm FN Brownings or with 6x7.92mm in Romanian service (with the benefit of saved weight)

Canadian Packard-engined Hurricanes - Mk.X, Mk.XII, Mk.XIIA.

Those are the ones I was looking for. It seem or I thought they really didn't exist.i.e
only one was built the XIIb
and is here in the states.

There's also one Mk.XII (12 MG variant) at Canada Aviation Museum in Ottawa.

AFAIK the designation for this variant was just Mk.XII, and not XIIB. This was the first Hurricane version anywhere in the world to carry 12 guns.

The XIIA that reverted to the 8 gun configuration came later.

Sorry Fly_zo I tried to ensure I posted in the correct room  , must of been finger trouble on the final click, apologies.

I have absolutely zero knowledge of modding so have no idea how hard it is to add a single bomb, but the 250lb bombs in game are pretty useless at grouped targets, dont get me wrong I can drop a 250lb right on the seats of a kubelwagon but the extra splash damage area of the 500lb bombs would be nice.

The IIE was a very short production run so we could easily forget about it and create the Hurricane IV which IMO is a sorely needed addition to the RAF armoury. The IV was used right up till 1944 in the MTO flying many grd attack sorties in Italy and even the far east IIRC. It would be a great addition to the game especially with all of that armour and ordnance capability.

If anyone is seriously interested in producing a Hurricane IV I have access to one of the most comprehensive collections of orginal Hawker drawings of the Hurricane and can probably find details of the armour and other such items.

edit: whilst the Canadian built hurricanes are valid aircraft request I cannot really see the point in producing them. As stated above the Canadian built ones were stock hurricanes but powered by Packard built Merlin engines rather than Rolls Royce built merlin engines.

I couldn't agree more!

And if i'm not mistaken Mk.IV's have seen service to the end of the war - not only 1944 - and in some cases even beyond, into 1950's.

There are some differences - not that big - in weight, performance and equipment fitted, as well as some visual differences. There was also a ski equipped Mk.XII version for use in Canadian north.

I think more other versions should be made.
Hurricane Mk IIc tropical (with bombs and external fuel tanks)
Hurricane Mk IIb tropical (where the fuel tanks and 500 pounders could be added)
Hurricane Mk IV and IV tropical Mk IV's were used for the first rocked attack on Holland, when they attacked some water works in '43. They were used on all theatres, so a tropical and normal version would be nice.
Hurricane Mk I early, with canvas wing and two blade prop.

Some Seahurricanes would also be nice!

Just my two cents. I know requesting is easy, building the actual planes is much more difficult, and all modders are already very busy with their prodjects. Still, there is hope!

Cheers,
Joppe
