There should be install instructions included with the textures as with all mods.

However just to help out. Ground textures are usually put in one and the same directory, a directory that contains all groundtextures:

... MODS/MapMods/Maps/_Tex/land/summer ...

It takes a bit of navigating the first time, but it's easy to find nevertheless. In that directory, you'll see a number of other texture files, all in .tga format. Just copy the textures (also in .tga format) you downloaded into that directory and that should do it.

Be advised that you should copy the textures while Il-2 is not running. If you copy a new texture with a game running, and you try to use a map with that texture, the game will not find it. the game needs to restart first.

But then to use them, you need to add them to the load.ini of any map you like. -viking

Thanks everyone but the download doesn't have a readme file - all it has is a file named RAR.- I've done a new download thinking the first was corrupted but it's no different.
I can't find a MODS folder - do I have to make one?
I've been using the MS sims for some time but I'm finding that the UBI ones are a totally different ball game!

Big Grin True in more ways than you think. Wink

If you are new to RAR files, get 7zip. It's a tiny utility that will extract your compressed files, including ZIP, RAR, LHA, Window's CAB and LHA files. It's freeware, so you're not nagged about buying and it's not bloated with too many features that you'll never use anyway.

For you to have a mods folder, you would need to have downloaded and installed the UI1.1 onto a (prefferably fresh) IL2:1946 install that was patched to 4.08m. Seeing as you are probably new to the unlocking of IL2, this would be the easiest route. You then also need to patch UI1.1 with the UI 1.1.1 patch. You can get both UI1.1 and UI Patch 1.1.1 here. Important: Make a backup of IL2:1946 before installing UI1.1 by copying it to a location of your choice.

After installing UI1.1 and patch 1.1.1, you can look over this thread again to go through the steps mentioned. Probably smart to make a copy of "1946 with UI 1.1.1" before installing mods.

GL and welcome to the forum. Smile

Thanks JAMF. It's beginning to make sense now. I downloaded the UI1.1 - it failed to install due to a corrupted file. I've downloaded the lot again and the second has failed for the same reason [ corruption point -MODS etc Mbug_sk_Lowland 1 etc ]
I'll try again but I'm becoming disenchanted with this sim.!

Don't lose hart, PB. Try another host, if one of them gives you a corrupted file.
