Adding new objects to FMB : Dead end...
#1

Hi all

I'm not sure this is the right place for this question, it just seems to be the best suited...

I've been trying to add several new objects required by new BETA maps (delvpier's bridges, LAL_RONE's Hangars and fortification...) but it doesn't seem to work whatever I try.

I read the readme for each MOD and followed the installation steps scrupulously, but to no avail. Those damned objects just won't show up.

I tried putting the files for each MOD in different locations (under their own ****/3Do path, in ObjectsMaps/3Do as well... ), looked all over the place for a second static.ini that might be conflicting with the one I have under STD/....., re-checked the static.ini three times over... Nothing.

As a result, I cannot save and play missions on the Zimbotho and BurmaLower maps.

While exploring the depths of my MODS folder, I discovered I had several objects installed that do not show up in FMB... Strange.

I'm really at my wits' end and would really appreciate a little help. Any idea what my problem might be ? Any leads for me to follow ?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

If you send me your static.ini, i'll have a look-see. 9 times out of 10, that's the problem.
Also need the exact file structure of your mods install. PM me if you want... 8)

PS: have you installed the UI1.1.1 patch?

Thanks for the offer BBM, however, believe it or not, right after posting this, I went into my MODs folder, opened the first folder I could lay my cursor on, and what did I find in there ? A 'com' folder with, sure enough, a static.ini in it. What the hell is DAMAGEMOD2 for that matter ? Anyway, D loads before S, so I was using this old static.ini all along, no matter what changes I did to my static in the STD folder.

Problem solved Wink

Really goes to show sometimes the answer is just there, and the most obvious the harder to find...

I have looked around here but I have'nt yet found a link for patch 1.1.1- what is it and what does it do? I've seen references to it in posts but my game, which runs fine so far thank you, is version 1.1.

Murph, the patch is in the UI download section: (The link is inoperative)
it sorts out some map object problems, etc. Check the readme, i can't remember what all it does...

Porco .... the damage mod was one of mine...many moons ago

as for it's effect upon the static.ini.... mainly adjustment of the strength of trees and giving them a dead model instead of the usual disappear in a puff of dust

Sorry FabianFred, I didn't mean to sound disrespectful. I just can't remember adding this mod myself. Must've come with the UI.

Too bad about loosing the damaged trees, on the other hand I now get many new objects. I just recently started fiddling with the FMB and was surprised when the new objects didn't show up on the list since had always assumed the new objects were installed and used properly.

Do you think I could overwrite the 'trees' lines of the the static.ini with lines from your mod to keep the damaged trees ?

I see no problem with that...

BTW no offense taken...

I always look at the static.ini like a list of objects (which it is) ....called upon by a map or mission

if they are called for by the map or mission and appear in your list...OK
if they are not in your list...problem

if their data in the MODS folder is missing or incorrect...... they simply do not appear upon the map or in the mission....but do not cause the map or mission to crash

no maps use every object available in our list.... so this tells me that.....having lots of extra stuff in your static.ini isn't a problem ....only when something is required which you don't have...

we require some of the ingredients in our larder to bake a cake...but not all
we cannot make the cake if any ingredients are missing
