Do you wish to have a second copy of the game to use?

If that's the case, all you have to do is copy the whole game directory to another location, using another name if it is on the same hard disk of course.

You can copy/paste as many copies of Il-2 as you wish/need as long as you have installed it first.

If however you wish to have a new, clean fresh install of the game, and you don't have a copy of that saved, then you normally have to un-install the game first, using the setup CD and then re-install, once again using the game setup CD.

Back up any missions and skins and music you've made, just to be on the safe side. I've know a CD run re-install to back-up and restore all these things upon a re-install, but better safe than sorry.

RealDarko, here's how I do it. Windows will only allow you to install 1 instance of IL-2, so follow this method for 2 or more installs. You will have to make a copy of your ENTIRE IL2 game folder, and store it somewhere on another hard-drive, or whatever. You then need to uninstall the existing IL2, via Control Panel - only after uninstalling, will it allow you to install a new version. I have several copies of the game, all made from one initial install.
I have 2 mod versions, a map version and a test version. The game folder can be copied, and you should be able to run the copied version without hassles. Hope this helps. 8)

EDIT: Jeez, my typing is slow....2 replies in the time it took me to type this...

method #1: copy entire IL-2 directory to other HD (if you have 2) or other new directory with temporarily fancy name

method #2: put using Windows-explorer (via change name) a minus-sign in front of root-directory 'Ubisoft'
the CD won't recognise the IL-2-directory
you can install as many IL-2's as you like

That's probably because of a recent mod you installed.

If you can remember which mod it was, then uninstall the mod and try starting up the game again, prior to re-installing

To find recent mods, you can also go to your mod directory and order the directories per 'modified' - probably don't need to tell you that, but it helps as a reminder ...

Do you have an extra hard disk? Or an external hard disk?

If so, then copy your working directory of the game to that external hard disk, and keep it safe while you un-install and then re-install the game.

Or else follow the procedure above with renaming the game with an '_' and then reinstalling.

Once you get it all fixed up, remember to always, always, always keep a clean, freshly installed copy of Sturmovik in a safe place.

You can upgrade a copy to versions 4.08/4.09 and then mod to your hearts content.

But always keep a clean copy saved away for emergencies ...

Darko,,answer is simply,,rename exsisting install on your HD to something like IL2,,then
Install new copy using your disk,,it doesn't matter if it is on the same HD as your first one,,you
can install IL2 many many times using this method,,I have 3 on drive C alone.
Remember,,rename esisting installs,,so new copy doesn't recognize it,it will reinstall with no problems
