Possible to edit QMB+ Missions with Notepad?
#1

I'm curious if I can make a sort of mission template for a QMB+ mission, say ChannelRedNone00.mis, and then copy and paste the static planes and some other extra planes (not flyable) into other QMB+ missions, say Scramble, Airfield, etc.

The reason why I'm asking is I had created a bunch of missions previously but have added a couple of mods and they broke my Channel QMB+ missions! I can't load them into the FMB or play them. I can start all over but I'd like to be able to copy and paste a lot of the info in instead of having to use FMB to place them all over again. Is this possible? Thanks!

Theoretically, yes.

Theoretically? So I take that to mean you haven't done it. Anyone else have? I'd like to know how to go about it and if I need to do anything special. I did try just copying and pasting but it didn't work the way I did it. Sad

Thanks for the reply.

A touch of sarcasm maybe?
A bit deserved I guess.

So I DID try it and it worked.
You say it didn't for you? What exactly did you do?

I opened a mission containing the objects I wanted in the QMB mission with Notepad and just copied and pasted my [NStationary] and [Buildings] sections from that .mis file into a stock QMB+ "None" mission .mis file for the purposes of this test. (Same map obviously) I also chose a "None" mission as it usually doesn't have any ground eye candy. The objects showed up in the FMB and in game as well. Mind you they were nowhere near the waypoints of the None mission so I had to fly a bit to find them but find them I did.
You should be able to copy/paste "Chiefs" and "Chief Waypoints" as well.

Once done you'll want to go into the FMB before playing and see if any conflicts were created like side affiliations and objects/Chiefs on top of each other.

Really nothing special I found to make this work. You may need to alter waypoints in the merged mission to get your flight(s) and enemy flights near your objects but other than that.....

Perhaps if you can be a bit more specific about what you did I or someone could be of more assistance.

Actually, no, no sarcasm intended. Smile Sorry if I came across that way. I was just making sure it was as you said theoretically and not from your experience.

That's odd. I did pretty much as you stated in your post.

First, I created a new "None" mission with just the planes merging and landing (I always like having them land. Smile ) and I then saved it. I then opened up the broken mission and copied all the extra planes I had in it that aren't controlled in the QMB when you make a mission. I pasted those in right below the planes in my new mission just like they were in the broken one. I load up FMB and all I see are the planes that were there in the original new mission. I then open up that mission in Notepad to make sure my changes were saved and they are still there. Cry

So I try adding the [Chiefs], as you mentioned, and they don't show up either. So then I try adding the [NStationary] objects and try loading it in FMB and my "new" mission is now broken, i.e. gets to about 90-95% loaded and then I see the cursor of my desktop over the game screen. The game is completely non-responsive and I have to bring task manager up to close it and the error message that Vista gives. If I delete the [NStationary] objects I've added it will load and play again but not showing any of the other things I've added into it. From everything I can tell it should work but it just doesn't.

I've got a Vista64 Ultimate installed OS in case that is part of the issue here. I'm using the Canon's Channel map. It seems that this stuff got broken somehow after I installed the new Korean Map, CarrierTakeoff, Wind Config Forgotten Nations mods. I'm not sure which one or ones did it as I've disabled them all but my guess is it might be the Korean map that added/changed some textures that Canon's map uses. On another computer I have the exact same install (copied over from my main machine) minus those mods/map and the missions run/load fine. this has really perplexed me to no end.

Yup, that's what I've done but it didn't work for me. The objects are there in the mission file but they don't show up in FMB or when I play/fly the mission.

Theoretically that is. Wink

As I thought it should be but for some reason it just doesn't work that way for me and after pouring over it fro a couple of hours I'm stumped as to why. The weird thing is I've tried to figure out what the conflict was with the old mission. So I copied in the "new" mission's initial planes, no go. I then deleted the [Buildings] objects, still no go. I then deleted the [Chiefs] and [NStationary] objects (while still having all the other extra planes in it) and I have the exact same mission as the newly created one but not with any of the extra planes... very weird. So I kept thinking there was something I was doing wrong or forgetting to add in but looking at other mission files doesn't show this to be the case.

I'm starting to wonder if it has anything to do with me using a versino of QMB+ that FatCat_99 never officially released here/to the public that I got from another fellow IL-2 lover of QMB+ missions... I say this because one of the weird things I've noticed with it is that it never saves the originally created time/weather conditions. They are written into the file but once loaded revert back to the standard Clear 12pm choices. So there is something inherently "off" with this particular version with the changes that he has made.

Thanks again for your reply (again, no sarcasm here Big Grin ) and if you can spot anything I"ve screwed up I'd appreciate hearing it!
