I was looking at a Google Earth of Dutch Harbor and noticed Adak is just off of Onalaska. Are there two of them?

Anyway wanted to thank you for bringing such a far-flung outpost of the war to life 8)

I can imagine some future campaign where if you screw up enough they send you packing to Alaska Confusedhock:

It'll be great fun Tongue

Thanks for making this Big Grin

Any chance that this map can be downloaded from a site where you don't have to create an account just to be able to download it?

There used to be Rapidshare, but now they have a 10 times download limit, unless the uploader has a paying account.

Sendspace only keeps files for download for about 10 days.

At least mediafire is still free.

I was reading about this project the other day and I was pretty excited about it. My father served in the Aleutians during WWII on a USAAF Crash Boat. His mission was to speed to the site of ditched aircraft and rescue the crews. My squad, AG-51, has been talking about an Aleutian map for a couple of years now... this is really special. Thank you.
By the way, I located the boat my Dad served aboard, the P-510. She is still afloat in Newport Beach, California. She's a dinner cruiser now. I was able to tour her on my birthday two years ago. She still has the original bell in the wheelhouse. I'll never forget putting my hand on her hull and thanking Dad for his service. He passed away several years ago.

Again, thank you for this wonderful map! Happy Memorial Day!

Thank you Agracier and Cracken,

for this great map! Very impressive! I really like those snow-capped mountains right close to the ocean. This opens up lots of possibilities for interesting campaign scenarios.
Perhaps, some talented modders could go ahead and add some local colour by converting the cows and horses we now have in the game into walrus and other seals. On top of that, perhaps we could get some of the local Native Aleutians in the game, a Native hunter in his skin boat, perhaps? To be included in Ship Pack 3?

Thanks again,

RB

Hi James- it's in the ZIP file. Keep opening the zip until you see folders _Tex, Aleutians, and Add to all .ini

It's in the zipfile ...

but here it is again:

Aleutians Aleutians/load.ini

BTW - there's always a simple method of finding the line to add.

Type the name of the mapfolder, then type a space, then type the name of mapfolder again followed by a slash followed by the name of the load.ini file - (a load.ini is typically named 'load.ini' but should it have another name - loadWinter.ini - then type that name after the slash.

Remember - mapfolders can never contain a space in their names. If necessary you must either use an underscore or write in one word.

Do you plan to create few roads (of course, if existing in ww2 reality) ?

I can add some roads if anyone can tell me there actually were roads back in WWII ... I didn't think them strictly necessary. Of course in Dutch Harbor there would be roads, but since it's a city that would be a given anyway ...

Open to suggestions on this ...
I think you're right. Roads are not really necessary. I have searched on Web but wasn't able to find any Aleutians map with road. I have found this WWII movie and it's true roads look quite rare
