Hey folks! I wanted to share some photos I made a week ago at the 2009 BIAF (Bulgarian International Aircraft Festival). It can't compare to the large shows (Farnborough, Le Bourges) but for a local affair it's quite decent! This year the show was held at the helicopter base at Krumovo, also the site of the National Musuem of Aviation, so this gave me an opportunity to take some photos of "warbird" planes. Besides, this year was special, because our Air Force finally managed to get some funds to participate in the airshow.... and they were amazing!

Too bad I messed most of the photos (I haven't shot anything in months due to some personall issues...) but at least I hope you'll like what you see - some of the pieces are unique!

Here's hoping (sorry, I'm hijacking the thread to make a request ) that some of the talented modders will add the advanced DAR-3 biplane or KB-11, that also fought in the war... :wink:

You get some unique planes in your 'neighborhood', I witnessed some crazy planes in the Romanian air force museum, though they were not well protected from the elements, I'll make a separate thread to show you perhaps.

What I do not understand is why store these pieces of history outside?!

There's no money... well, not that this stops the Social Minister (for example) to ride her @$$ in a state expenditure Mercedes Maybach, but when it comes to museums, cash is short.

By the way, all of the restored pieces (except the Tu-2 I think) were made so by donations and regular people who worked on them. And in a decade or so, they'll have to be rebiult again... :?

My hope is that some foreign aviation enthusiasts can help with a money raising campaign. There's a project (private, of course...) to create light wooden or plastic semi-closed hangars, at least for the restored aircraft.

Aghh! I wondered that too. No government person should have such luxuries at the peoples expense - irony for sure.. Truly a shame for these craft to slowly decay outside.

None of my family have flown, my father and uncle being groundcrew on Meteors, Vampires and Venoms. The father of a friend of mine though flew Firefly's during the Korean War
