'Malta Defenders : Operation Aegeus' *UPDATED*
#1

'Malta Defenders : Operation Aegeus' depicts the arrival of ficticious relief convoy 'Aegeus' to the besieged island in spring 1942. You are the leader of a Wing of Spitfires based at Takali, and you'll be tasked with carrying out various types of missions over the central Mediterranean to ensure the convoy arrives safely.

Now updated to new 1.0 version.

Soon at M4T, pending approval.

Check the readme for a short list of what's been fixed and the new MODs requirements. ShipPack and LAL_Rone's Hangars and Fortification Mods are now required. You'll also need Ranwers' Cant.1007z

WARNING : Requires Sanka's 'Forgotten Countries' !

I based my missions on actual events surrounding Operations 'Calender', 'Bowery' and 'Harpoon' from April to June 1942.

Read the readme for further info and the short list of required mods.

A great big thanks to the makers of the Malta map and to the skinners whose skins I used.

Feedback wanted. This is my first FMB effort and any and all comments and positive criticism are welcome and encouraged. They'll help me for my next project.

Hope you enjoy.

Cheers

looks great Nico, i'll have to get this and see how you've done...

which bombers, if any, have you chosen to masquerade as the Regia Aeronautica's Sm.79 as i've not seen one around anywhere??

Finally, a Malta fighter campaign with a real Malta map! I'll give it a try once I finish my FW-190 tours over Kursk and Orel. Big Grin

PorcoRosso, any chance for an Italian Macchi campaign for the Malta map?

None  I have to admit the bombers selection is pretty narrow... Just the old Ju-88... that said you'll meet it in four different roles over the course of the campaign Wink All the Italians use as bombers in this campaign is the Ju-87 'Pichiatello' and fighter bombers (CR 42 and MC-200-7FB. The Ju-52 float version makes a couple of appearances as a generic Italian seaplane. That's the best I could do, sorry...

Now you see why this is just 'semi historical' !

I'll make an updated version when (if) the SM.79 is released and the Cant 1007 is updated, with prequels to the campaign Big Grin

I found that the lack of appropriate ships and airplanes to be a hindrance to doing the Malta theatre justice... No Reggianes, no Trop Hurris, no Italian medium cruisers and no British destroyers...

I could make another version of the campaign with the Macchi as flyable but it'd be even less historically accurate than this one Big Grin . I'm terribly lacking info...

PorcoRosso, I've just installed your campaign, and tried to fly it. However at the end of the loading of the campaign I get the message 'Mission loading failed;null'. Can you tell me what is wrong?

No idea mate. Have you tried flying the mission again ? Sometimes the game gives me a 'mission load null' for no reason and then loads fine if I make another attempt. I'm trying to think of objets I might have included that could cause the problem... Do you have UI 1.1 installed with all the patch 1.1.1 additions ?

Yes it does, but until everyone manages to get it to work without issues, I prefer to refrain from using ShipPack objects, which is a pity...

What are the issues? I've never had any problem with it

I've been using it to build a set of QMB+ missions for my upcoming Crete map (two classes of RN destroyers plus a Fiji class cruiser - perfecto!) Is this going to be a problem?- viking

PS great screen shots BTW - this looks like a lot of fun! Big Grin

Well, some people have trouble installing it and getting it to work properly, on account of the several files that need to be modified. I've also read it could conflict with some other mods. That said, I think I'll start using it too for my next projects...

I've also avoided ShipPack 2 for that reason. I want anything I make to be as easy to install as possible. I haven't tried SP2 since I got the UI1.1 but my last experience wasn"t completely hassle free so I decided that if I couldn't do it, many others would be in the same boat (no pun intended but i quite like it).

fourth mission ...good so far (I haven't got home once.. )

had to change the ju88's to normal in notepad for the second mission because I didn't have the torpedo one installed.

fourth mission ...the MC 202's were a little bit too persistant...following our plane back over Malta and even staying when they were landing.....

For BoB type missions i would try and prevent this...(the Italians were brave...but not stupid..... and would have turned for home before then). To duplicate the Bf109's poor fuel load and short time over Britain i would adjust the fuel for them...so that after a short dogfight they would turn for home and run for their coast.
This mission needs something similar.

Thanks, nice campaign to play

Put on my favorite skins
[Image: 152h.jpg]
Replaced JU88 by CANT 1OO7 on some missions
[Image: 160k.jpg]
Add details to the airfield

And until now I played 5 missions, this campaign works perfect.
Seems to be easier than an old one I played before mods appearence, based on pacific map.
Anyway good job!

Excellent shots mate.. and yes.. the first thing I did was replace a few of the 88's with the Cant, starting with mission 5, adjusted the Cant torpedo version to a lower attack altitude.. really difficult to get to grips with them at that low level amongst all the convoys flak.. very hairy!
