Dunkelgrun you could be right. I found no photo dated 1941 Dec, which could clearly show, that the runway was already paved or not paved. So I had to make a decision and chose to pave the runway of wheeler. All the photos dated 1942 show a clean paved runway. It looks better I think and the second reason is, that this is also a good compromise to Oahu in later years.

I read, that they began to pave the runway late in year 1941.

What do you think is the best way?

Porto, I knew I had a reason for suspecting it to be unpaved. P.120 of 'Pearl Harbor' by H.P.Wilmott has an aerial picture taken during the first phase of the attack. Wheeler is definitely a grass runway; only the ramp is concreted. I don't have the means to scan it in atm, but hopefully someone can.
It's still your decision as how to show it though - I'm just happy that you've done so much work on this map already.

as your B+W photos show....the tank farm tanks are much larger than any in the il2 Objects library...... so for my map i made new ones by reskinning the round Helsinki airport bulding and lowering it to below ground level...

Hello,

sorry for the pause I took. I am working now a lot for real business and I did not found time to complete the map. I am also waiting for the mod "real roads". They would look realy nice on the hawaii map. But I can understand Saburo Sakai and I am planning to send the map to all of you who are willing to help me completing this work (something like a pre-pre-pre beta version). I have to prepare a speak this week, so I see no chance of testing my map files for other computer systems this weekend. But I hope to find some time in the next week (but I cannot give you a guaranty).
