Well, there's the Western Med that needs some maps too.

The 2 above are pretty far advanced, with a member here doing testing and finding all the mistakes that always creep into these things.

This one is to get completed over the summer hopefully. And I'll do my best to ensure they work on your setup ...

Agracier, this is the first time on seeing a wip that I cried out loud, 'YES!'

Cyprus is my home, I would gladly provide you with information on important landmarks you might want to include.

In fact i've been wondering if there should be some sort of intermediate map between the two first ones.

The Regia Aeronautica bombed Cyprus and Haifa, logically having launched from Rhodes. Unfortunately there is very little information on this, there used to be a youtube video of relevance that got remuved by the user. My grandmother also remembers Nicosia being evacuated when the Germans bombed.

Thanks again, awesome effort.

Thank you, awesome work.

Well, I'd want to include it all in a manner of speaking, but my object placing skills are quite minimal. Hope to improve over time and this summer I'd like to do my best on these.

Now if you'd like to take a go a populating Cyprus - you'd be more than welcome ...

I'd love to, i'm not sure I know what the process is, I certainly know how to use FMB though, I have my map making tutorial at hand so I should read up on that so I can assist you if you need me.

Well, placing objects in a map is indeed like working in the FMB, but you have to do it in a map-making enabled version of Il-2.

There's no need for the map-making tutorial. Populating cities and placing objects mainly takes a lot of patience ...

Another nice looking map Agracier!
Metatron, go ahead and give it a try! It's not that hard and like Agracier says, it's just like placing objects in the regular FMB but you're using the Unlocked-FMB instead. Are you familiar with it? I find it easier to use because all the objects are listed by their names and not by numbers. Airfields are probably the most difficult to populate but once you know the basics it gets pretty easy.

Agracier, this idea of you making the basic unpopulated map with textures and allowing other people to populate it is a GREAT IDEA! You can find someone who's really interested in finishing/populating it and this way several maps can be made more quickly than if doing one map all by yourself. At this rate, we'll be able to see many more new maps in the near future!
THUMBS UP!

That was my hope as well. Do yourself what you can do well and let others take over when you're lacking in the needed skills.

By the way - airfields are already done in the maps, basic airfields that is, runways and points and all that - simply by copying good airfields from other maps. Doesn't man they couldn't use some extra buildings and objects to jazz them up, but essentially airfields are already done.

Oh yes indeed. I've made a vow to stick to 1:1 maps, 50m = 1 pixel and all that.

I tried making some maps to a smaller scale to get more area on a map, but somehow I feel that the landscape gets distorted too much, especially the mountainous areas just don't feel right, they look too mountainous, too odd and bumpy.

It's a delicate equilibrium finding a good landscape to map. The Caucasus for instance seems to defy all attempts at producing something acceptable in the way of maps - the valleys are not flat enough, the mountains too bumpy ... very odd.

Then again other places on the planet produce magnificent feeling landscapes to fly in for Il-2. There wasn't always something going on in the way of wars or aerial combat these last 100 years (lucky for the inhabitants), but it's irresistible to not make a map of these places.

Agracier, on Valencia map, is Menorca not Minorca. Also If you can add my town ( Amposta ) is just inside your map near the northern border. I will like to populate it!
