The Sun Rises over the Aleutians
#1

What do you imagine when I say "War in the Pacific"? Atolls, jungles, sandy beaches, aircraft carries, the Americans and the Japanese?

But also snow, cold water, winter weather, high mountains and rocks and Canadians.... this is the Aleutian campaign. The only campaign of WW2 fought in the continent of America.

Fly a Zero and a Rufe over the Aleutians in this semi-historical campaign.

I payed the first mission this night.

Its a impressive sight seeing the first snowy mountains when coming out of the clouds
and you know, hey its a absolute different and new theatre of airwar in IL2!

But, why have you used stationary carriers, in the beginning I had some problems....

Again, thank you very much for your work
and also agracier for his map!

Three missions in and loving the campaign, great job, the scenery is quite something isn't it. How about a campaign from the US side, would be great to fly those P-40's with the face.

Hi Pete, how are you? I have considered making a US campaign.... BUT - I think there are quite a lot of US campaigns for P-40... There are not many US P-39 campaigns, it would be maybe better... (I was really surprised when I got to know that a great US ace Gerald Johnson flew in the Aleutians and scored two unconfirmed Rufe kills...)

Maybe a Canadian P-40 campaign would be nice - I love unlikely encounters... I have never imagined that a Canadian pilot would shoot down a Jap...

BUT I am too busy, agracier is producing new maps very quickly and I can barely follow his pace

(I hope I will not spill the beans, but now I am working on a Vichy campaign for the Dakar map. But hush, it is a secret  .)

Yeah, I should never announce any "Campaign in the works", becuse there is quite a number of campaigns that has been left idle for too long.... I will return to them, of course. Just do not know when...

The campaigns for the new maps should be given the highest priority. I always wanted to have real Aleutians, Dakar, Madagascar, Lebanon, South France and China.

Nice job Craken. I'm really enjoying it. Scenery and story are first rate. Thanks.

I agree with Mission_bug and would love to see this run from a P-39 or P-40 too.

Hi Tom, a Canadian campaign would be great, sadly they are very rarely featured. However, I have flown the Dakar map and it is quite stunning, all Agracier's maps are, so another Vichy campaign I feel would be most welcome.

By the way, what happened to the Chaco campaign?

All the best, Pete. Big Grin

I originally built the Bolivian Chaco campaign for the Zimbotho map. (I made 9 missions, all historical, which are harder to make, because you have to check your steps all the time - I guess you perfectly know what I am talking about.) Then I got in touch with agracier and we discussed the real Chaco map - he said it would not be difficult and made it very quickly (I provided him with some information).

And than we talked about some other maps - among them the Aleutians... I thought many more people would be interested in the Aleutian campaign than in the Chaco war, so for this reason I decided not to rework Chaco map immediately, but to leave it idle for a while. (The real Chaco campaign for the agracier's map would take some 30 missions or so, it is very time consuming... I have enough information on that issue.)

But I can release the mini-Chaco campaign as a small demo (all 9 missions I have made together) for the Zimbotho map, if you like...

At the meantime I managed to persuade some of my fellow countrymen and we started making the Czech speech pack for the Czechoslovakian folder.... (I have the Beta version in my PC already. My voice is represented in Actor1, but it was altered enough, fortunately Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin ) It should be released around mid-June, and of course, I will feel to be obliged to make some Czechoslovak campaigns, when it is out.

BTW, have you had enough rest? Do you intend to build some more modded campaigns? I have started to play your Vichy Indochina campaign again, I like it all, but the first two or three missions where nothing happens. (I understand it is historical. I had always had a problem in finding a good balance between historical accuracy and amusement. But I had decided the amusement should prevail...)

Hi Tom, I think I have to agree that the Aleutians theatre would be more popular as a campaign for the majority of players than Chaco, I'm certainly enjoying it. As for the Chaco campaign I think I would rather wait until you find the time to put it on the actual map, 30 missions will take some time though. At the moment I have no plans to do a campaign, so many maps to choose from, I can't decide, possibly Madagascar from the Vichy side but I would need plenty of information, none of which I have at the moment. Maybe agracier could make a Vietnam map then I could re-do the early part of my Vichy campaign on proper airfields instead of what I had to use when I released the campaign. I accept your point about authenticity and playability, maybe I tried to be to close to the actual events, but at least the patroling gave you the chance to just enjoy flying over wonderful terrain, and they do say war is 90% boredom.

Wishing you the very best, good luck with future projects, Pete. Big Grin

Hello Cracken,

Thank you for this very interesting campaign. I have just one question. I know that the read-me states that the UI 1.1 with latest patch is needed. However, will this campaign work with the UI 1.0, too? I have the Aleutians map installed and it is working fine on UI 1.0.

Thanks,

RB.

P. S. I would be very interested in a Canadian campaign for the Aleutians map, too. Whenever you find the time and energy.

Thanks for all your hard work.

To be honest, I don't know. - I wrote down the settings/requirements I have and that work for 100% for me...

There might occur some saving problems... But if it works for you, it should be fine anyway.
