Graphical Fix - Dot distance
#1

Hello!

Is it possible to extend the distance where the plane is rendered instead of presenting it as a dot (or two dots, black and gray) ?

The current distance range is too narrow according to our nowadays graphics cards. The plane spotting and tracking would be improved that way also, especially these ones moving on the land background.

Best regards!

+1 and possibly increase all the LOD distances by a bit, not just the last one.

This is an exact question that has been asked about 500 times ever since il2 came on the scene 7-8 years ago.

I believe that the best your ever going to get is to go way back & try each and every driver until you get one that gives you the best views possible for your computer setup.

With my Nvidia 8800GTS 512 card I finely settled on the 178.13 drivers which gives me very good ground objects views at just enough distance to make a good attack approach.

head on aircraft will show as a black dot very far away, but you wont be able to see wings until about 1.0 where it will disappear for an instant & then reappear in all of its blazing glory....

If you ever figure out a-way to make it better though we will all be in your debt...

The dot and so many LODS should be discarded. High end cards could make the rendering using the first LOD.

Does anyone know if the new planes (Panther) has so many LODS as required by maddox standard initialy?

Maybe I should ask the creator... Smile .

Yeah, there are enough issues with stutter from the need to load sounds and textures, that dumping the LOD models might actually improve performance. Wink

Flakiten said his Panther uses one LOD for some parts and 3 LODs for other parts. he didn't said what parts but I suppose he split it into wings and fuselage.

I'm thinking... the franken planes have to be very difficult to be made with more LODs... How many have them?

Couldn't we get rid of them all and keep only the high quality one?

And the dot... Smile

Bump

I hope that this is totally possible, i am getting tired of seeing just a dot in the distance, being unable to recognize if it is a bogey or friendly until it is too late

hopefully my SLI rig should have no problems with rendering the whole plane at a distance

the problem is tihs, not everyone has a high end pc, and when making planes this has to be taken into consideration, the game must be playable for everyone, not just the high end users or you will cut the community in half.
