Some very very useful tips in this ... will make good use of it. And maybe while doing so possibly figure out why installing new planes still gets me the 60% CTD.

Hi Cirx, many thank you for your Hints.

Although I make some of what you suggest
since I started using the mods, your trick with the
seperators in the air.ini is new for me!

I'm trying it just now and it works, hurra!

Thank you!

Hi Karaya

Yup, I wrote this for they guys who DIDNT know, of whom there seem to be some from time to time lol! Big Grin

The F2GALLAND is a Classfile Experimental Platform. It started out as one of Galland's cutomised F2's (Mg131's), but at the moment it is whatever I last did to it...I dunno, I think I tried to put a B29 cockpit into it last...

Anyway, so its not for download anywhere, alhough I hope to at somestage get a decent 109 F-5 out of it. But this has not even developed enough for me to notify anyone of intent yet.

Why not make an F-6/U!?

That is probably the most unique of all 109s ever made as it was a one-piece model specifically made to Adolf Gallands preferences. Basically just a F-4 but with the MGFF/M cannons retained from the Emil!

Galland was unhappy with the reduced armament on the F-series which was made up of just 2xMG17s and either a MG151/15 (F-2) or the MG151/20 (F-4), so he demanded a special model for his personal use that was to have a pair of MGFF/M cannons in the wings on top of the standard armament.

That would be a very interesting bird to fly and wouldnt need a new FM, just a little tweak to the wings mid section for the cannon barrels to show up and of course the class work!

AFAIK the 2 109's Galland had modified were both F-2's. There are some nice pictures around of them at a speech Goering made, when they were on display in the background. One of them had two MgFF's added to the wings, and the other had two Mg131's instead of Mg17's on top of the engine. They were both painted identically, except on the one , Galland's Mickey Mouse insignia faced backwards.

The F5 and F6 were dedicated recon machines, apparently the fastest of the F series, but only armed with two Mg17's and no armored windscreen. The F5 required the pilot to take pictures from the cockpit, so it was strictly tactical recon, but the F6 had fittings for a few variants of Rb camera. These machines were reportedly so fast they stayed in service into 1943, and were never fully replaced by the G 4/R2's.

I wasnt talking about the F-6, which is in fact as you said a recon machine. But Gallands 109F with the pair of MGFF/Ms was designated "F-6/U". Other than the similar designations the two versions have no other greater similarity.

I have Gallands kill claim report for his 94. victory that he claimed in that very machine and it says:

Type of machine: F6U
Spent amunition: 62 MG17, 22 MGFF/2cm, 14MG151/20 2cm
Type and amount of weapons used in the fight: 1 MG151/20, 2 MGFF/2cm, 2 MG17

I'm very much certain that this is a modified F-4 and NOT a F-2. The MG151/20 and the date of the kill (18.11.1941) point to it. At that time the F-4 type had been in service for over half a year. If Galland already went as far as having his kite modified with a unique armament scheme in a LW repair bay or manufacturing line then I'm sure he would have also wanted that more powerful DB601E to go with it!

Cool! Thanx for the info, that's really interesting. As you say the 151/20 is a dead giveaway. And I love these old documents, thanx for sharing!

PS, I saw you did the FM for the New G4 over at Beta's. I am downloading it now, but thanx in advance! I am sure it will be excellent. Perhaps when I am ready with that F5 or 6 (the recon ones) we can hook up.

And as you said, that Galland F6 would also be very interesting, and something that should go onto the ToDo list.

Really useful post. Thanks for all the great info, but I could use a little advice please. I have now got all my planes in the order I want. I did have trouble getting a couple to show up though. The Fiat G.50 and H8K1 only seem to show up in certain positions. My real problem however, is the headings. I got them to show up correctly, on the qmb+ main screen, but when I went into the advanced section to set the skin, nation etc', all the headings are then identical to each other. I tried all I could think of. I even tried copying and pasting the headings from your example onto my own file, but everything I tried resulted in either every heading being identical, a 60% ctd, or the plane I used for making the heading showing up in it's own location but with it's name replaced by the heading. Or various other calamities. Any ideas? Sad
