Time for a new German voice pack?
#1

I was wondering if anybody is planning on doing a new German voice pack? The one the game came with is horrible with all the screaming and crying as well as the fat tower controller voice. With the Czech pack being so good I think maybe the Germans are looooong overdue.

Anybody interested? :?:

I like the German speech pack available over at M4T. It's a translated version, It's in english but the actors all have German accents.

Hello Freiwillige and Bingo!

I agree and think that a new German voice pack might be a good addition. There are some mildly annoying aspects to the stock German voices. Besides the screaming, etc. what gets me is that before the scream, Number three, or whoever it is, quite calmly announces "This is number three." And right after that, he launches into this terrified scream, yelling something to the extent that he is going down. This is just one example of some of the jarring immersion breakers included in the standard voice pack.
According to some WWII combat aviation veterans, the first thing to go in the heat of battle, is radio discipline. Perhaps, that could be reflected in a new voice pack.
However, I do appreciate the fact that the designers of the game actually bothered to include the original languages in their voice packs. The German voice pack, for example, has quite a few different German dialects, which I find quite cool.
The fact that most nationalities one can fly for in IL-2 actually have their aviators' voices in the original languages was one of the aspects that attracted me to IL-2. By listening to the Japanese, Italian, or Russian voices, one could actually pick up a phrase or two. Yes, I know that it might not be that handy to know the phrases for "Maintain your altitude," or "Course 1-5-0" when you are at the beach in Italy, or somewhere in downtown Tokyo. However, I do believe that having the original languages in the game adds a lot to it.
Perhaps, some of the German speakers here could try to improve the existing voice pack.
Just my two cents on this.

Regards,

RB

Yes, why not! I always feel annoyed over the controllers grumbling and strange accent...

There is a very nice female German controller voice around the place. Somewhere at M4T I think.
EAW had several German voice packs that are worth downloading from their mod sites and adapting to Il-2 use. Most freeware sound editors are capable of this.

someone has a pack with his wife doing the tower control, its really good, I always use her. Although i do like the fat guy too! How do you know he is fat??

Yes I would like to see a new pack. I think Germans pilots would be much cooler under pressure than they are now. but some of it is good. VOLTREFFER!

...to me panic just "feels" right. Most annyoing are Russian and US chatter elements. You can almost say they got used to being burnt alive. In their totally calm manner you could expect them to just tell their squad something like "Sorry for the interruption, guys, Just wanted to let you know that my leg and parts of the cockpit are missing while I'm heading mostly downwards."

That's wasting more immersion to me than Il2 vanilla's "lack" of blood covered pilot faces and gorey looks.

Any speech pack is welcome
