Host can't see Deccription, others can.

Hi, I have a problem when I host a coop in HL with 409b1m mods on. (with the Unified Installer 1.1.1)

As host I cannot see the brief or description, but people who join my coop can.

I see no answer for this problem anywhere?

Please advise, FN.

Howdy mate,

I had the same problem until someone enlightened me. I'm sorry to say I can't remember who it was now. The problem with the briefing in 4.09 mods is with the properties file. With 4.09 missions you'll notice a different properties file which has _ru at the end of the name such as this; Marianas Turkey Shoot_ru.properties.

I'm not sure if the game adds this with older missions or not. But in any case if you don't see this properties file then you will not see the brief when you're hosting. So to see it when hosting just make a copy of the original properties file and add the _ru after the name and before the period and properties. Since I'm lousy at giving directions I've posted an example below. I hope this helps you out mate.

Marianas Turkey Shoot.mis
Marianas Turkey Shoot.properties
Marianas Turkey Shoot_ru.properties

Samson is mostly correct. It's not 4.09 though, it's the mod that causes this. Being as the mod files were "adapted" from the original Russian files, when the mod is activated the game wants to see "_ru.properties" files.
It will make a blank one if you open the mission in the FMB. If you have a blank "_ru" file just copy/paste the regular ".properties" text into it.
Otherwise, as Samson says, just copy the current ".properties" file and add "_ru" before the dot. (you also want to get rid of the "Copy of")

If you make a mission using the mod you will only get a "_ru.properties" file, so if you want to play the mission in an un-modded version of the game (assuming you didn't use any mod files in the mission building) you would need to make a copy of the "_ru" file and just name if ".properties".

You can have both ".properties" and "_ru.properties" files in the game. The game will choose the correct one based on whether the mod is activated or not.

I was helping IDIOT earlier today with this problem. We basically did what Samson described in his post, since I make and host coops and it works for me.

However, when he hosted a test coop mission on HL, I was able to see the briefing but he was not. So, I'm really not sure what else may be the problem. Hopefully someone here can offer some help.

Thanks for the replies.

I did as suggested and placed the ".properties" in front of the _ru.
Still no Description veiwable for host.

To reiterate:
I have tried a "_ru.properties" file ext., a "-ru" file ext. and a ".properties" file in 4.09b1m mods on.

I as host can't see Description, but players can.

As far as creating a 4.09b1m "mods on" coop, It does not create a _ru.properties that I see.
If I look into renaming it, I have to add the .properties either way.
Although it does say the _ru file is a properties file.

THIS IS DRIVING ME NUTS!

Ok, I didn't know this was happening to you. In that case, I think you have a real problem here. A 'modded' version of the game should create an 'ru' Properties file when you make a mission from scratch.

No, the "_ru" needs to go before the ".properties", i.e. "Mission XXX_ru.properties".

"_ru.properties" is the only file name that will work. Don't make it an extention to the ".properties" extention.
i.e. "Mission XXX_ru.properties.properties" is an invalid file name. All you need is "_ru.properties" added to the mission name.

It will only 'create' one if one is not present. Otherwise it should.

Does that file have any text in it? Is there a similarly named ".properties" file? If so copy the text from the ".properties" into the "_ru.properties".

Welcome to the world of mission building. Once you get this sorted things should move along nicely for you. Be patient, it will come.

Oh yeah, one more thing...it may seem silly but, do BOTH files (.mis and .properties) have exactly the same name? It is case sensitive so If the name is "Mission XXX" the other file can't be Mission xxx".
They must have no characters other than letters, numbers, single spaces and the "_" underscore. Other characters, such as "~", "/", "@" etc. are not acceptable file structure names.

Aviar, perhaps I wasnt clear.

It does create the _ru file while creating a file from scratch withs mods.

Boris, when I said "in front of" I meant at the end, after the _ru, sorry.
