Benghalli, map in progress
#1

It is time to inform you boys (and very few girls  ) about my map making poor attempts. But first:

Thanks to Fly_zo for technical help and his ideas (I wouldn’t do anything without his comments) and kevinp for his tutorials (I wouldn’t try anything without reading it first)

I call this map Benghalli, inspired with comic book “Phantom”. Map should be situated somewhere about equator in Pacific or Indian ocean, somewhere in the middle of 1930s, so that’s why there is no camouflaged objects or any towns, it’s pure wilderness. I am using Lal Rone’s retextured objects so you will need Ui 1.1 to install this map (once when finished and released)

Smaller dogfight map, 5 islands, 3 airports and 1 hydro base. Map is totally fictive but islands are real islands ripped from all around Vanuatu archipelago. They are geographically correct, meaning that heights and shapes are correct, they are looking slightly different than usual il2 terrain because I adjusted Clockwatchers curve for altitude for SRTM files. In my vision it is more lifelike in this way.

All textures are new, except forest, 8 of them so far, but I think there will be no more of them, so it’s very easy for your computers.

I don’t know when it will be finished, there is some more fine tuning and navigational 2D map to do. By then I will post screenshots of work in progress.

Edit: I had several requests for textures that I used, so here they are. All of them that I consider complete:

And now . . . who will make Ford Trimotor or Lockheed Electra for this? Big Grin

Man that is a very nice map Avala. I think i might need to upgrade my comp to enjoy those beautiful textures. I like the idea how you used realistic islands in a fantasy backdrop. One question though about the hydrofield, is it just a tarmac in the ocean or does it have dividers?

Anywhoo, very nice map Big Grin

Avala, You are too humble. This map looks first rate! Your use of textures is excellent. wOw!

dude, here's a challenge. The photo 5th from the top looks almost like a big waterfall. With the right texture and some creativity in your map_c, you could pull it off!

Yes, they are bump mapped, but not heavily, more clever, with heavily results are bad. I had luck in finding good usable textures. Actually no one has to upgrade computer, it is very light map, its small and has only 8 custom textures.

What you see there is nvidia 9600 with 16X antialiasing and 16X anisotropic filtering, and it goes smoothly, except with some already famous “above water stuttering” with water=4 and near the coast.

I think it would be just on the water. I am not at that part yet, nearly started ground airports. I’m trying to deal with blocky looking textures at the coasts at the moment

Big Grin Already tried but no success, I can’t place texture so accurately. Anyway it won’t look like water if you come any near it, and on that screens planes are closer to the cliffs that it might look, or what we except of usual il2 map.

...is probably the best looking cliff face I've seen yet! I love how the vegetation climbs up and hangs over the wall.

WOW!
