Another IL-2 Gun Camera clip

Nice start Dorkfish. The epitome of IL2 Guncam creation was reached by MysticPuma 2 1/2 years ago, before there were any MODs by the way. You should set your sights(no pun intended) to exceed his masterpiece.

That is VERY realistic. I love the flickering light and movement. I thought of adding four prongs to some, but had no idea how. As I said, this was my attempt. I never said it was the best...or even good. I've been playing IL-2 for about 4 months. Just thought I'd share my work.

Having said that, I would never come into a topic where someone posted a clip, then link to a movie by jafaem, any of them...just pick one, and say hey...you really need to strive to beat this. But that's just me...to each his own, though. It does not bother me.

Perhaps you should have said in your first post: "Please do not provide any constructive criticism. In fact, don't comment at all unless you have praise to offer."

I probably would not have offered any response, whatsoever, but felt something needed to be said after you received the accolade of your clip being "Wow...the most beautiful movie... ever seen". That could give a person a very false sense of achievement.

If you want a direct critique of your clip, in order to point out your weak areas so that you might improve/correct them, ask. Without directly criticising your efforts, it seemed simpler to give you an example of what is possible. It's obvious that you are new to the Guncam 'game'. As I said before, good luck with your efforts.

There used to be a Website dedicated to IL2 (and EAW and CFS2) guncam movies/clips. Your clip would rate very well against those hundreds that were hosted on that site. Unfortunately that Site had to close in 2004 for lack of funding to support huge bandwidth requirements(by the standard of the day). The various MODS offer much improved realism in the IL2 game graphics...it would be a treat to see new guncam clips created making use of such realistic effects.

I really hate to keep this going..but; I don't consider posting a clip (from someone else, I assume,) then saying ..."you should set your sights(no pun intended) to exceed his masterpiece," to be constructive criticism. Saying, hey..you should blur it some more. Or not render it in HD. Or use an early model Spitfire (.30) vs. a P-47 to get tracer smoke. Or try to make the light flicker...and here is how you do it. And this is the editing software I used. These are the effects I added to make x happen ..... to be constructive criticism. People can say it sucks for all I care. If that is what they think.

Peace. really. Maybe I just took your intent the wrong way.

I'll do a Pacific one when I get time. Here's a short test.

Very good ...an improvement as N Lowe said. I think in the first clip, one sees in the IL2 acft/captured video a lot of evidence of the acft (Player acft) nose 'floating' around quite a bit, sharply at times....the dreaded 'Wobble". I think, in-game, this is caused by either joystick quality/use or more likely lack of Trim setting during the attack; it can be difficult at times to keep the pipper smoothly and consistently centered on the target. It sometimes feels odd when flying and looks artificial in captured footage/guncam clip.
The example by MysticPuma which I posted shows a different effect: the 'Player's" nose is relatively stable with regard to the line of attack on the target aircraft, no significant Wobble....the guncam 'movement' is rather caused mostly by shaking of the Players acft (in the post-processiing creation of the guncam clip) rather than drastic fluctuations in the player acft's in-game angle of attack. If that makes sense...

For example, in your first clip, 00:15 through 00:22 one sees the in-game Nose Wobble which seems artificial.
Compare that to 4:02-4:22 in the Mystic puma clipwhere the Player's acft 's nose is tracking smotthly vis-a-vis the target acft.
I note also that in your first clip, your final two tree top strafing attacks are indeed quite smooth...and both come across as very realistic.

The exception to the rule being evident, though, at 4:58-5:0s in MP's clip where Nose wobble is also seen.

All above just food for thought...one person's impression of IL2 guncam clips generally versus real world guncam clips.

I hope you keep up your efforts...as I said, the many new MODs, smoke and bullet/cannon hits, etc (and target aircraft types) may improve realism in future GC clips.

Thanks, Doolittle81. I'm very new to Vegas. I played around with it last night and found the jitter/flicker effects. And playeda round with washing out color. And some other things to make IL-2 guncams more realistic than my attempt here.

That one part you are talking about I was pulling up vertical. Hard to tell from that angle. And the A-20 kill was before I got a a joystick. lol But it looked too cool not to include it. I'll keep the movement advice in mind. Thanks a lot for the tips.

Regards.

That's true...even me i've started like him playng with options colors and watching carefully guncams and adding details to the video most of the people that makes videos doesn't botter for details but when the guy that discovers that detail says "ooo cool" in my first movie i've puted some bullets exiting from the machine gun check the link and download the video "flyng bullets"and the people loved that...or now i do explosion and stuff...i have much moore experience now but the difference betwen me and darkfish is that when i was like him i didn't post them cuz i've saw some better video's so i was affraind about the comments...then i've gain some experience..and thought that maybe..my video is better that his and then i've tryed to post it...but pls check the flyng bullets what do u think?

Dorkfish

That last Clip looks very, very good/real. Nice job.

You might try experimenting with adding a 'soundtrack' to some of your clips, for novelty effect...simple projector sound.
Here are two files which work....Right-Click, then download:

Great idea, Thanks so much for your help. Last one (with your suggested additions) before I bore everyone to tears. lol Tongue

HolyGrail - I've had Movie Maker of various versions for years I guess and never knew what the heck I could do with it until a few months ago.... hahahah. Never messed with making movies. Dabble with Photoshop from time to time. My first online game was was History Channel's Dogfights by KUMA. The first movie I ever published from anything. Realistic game, huh?

what a definite improvement!

Could i give a suggestion?

Try to make a little more shake if you can because propeller planes did indeed have vibrations, and also, when shooting, even more shaking. Also, maybe try to give the film a little more age to it Smile
