Installing new aircraft with Vista64
#1

Hi all,

After 7 years I've finally got a new rig. It has Vista64, and I've been able to install most things and am having a woderfully new expeirnce with IL2. However, I have a concern. I want to start installing a few more aircraft (I already have UI 1.1), but when I go to add the necessary lines in the planes-ru and weapons-ru files the system says that it cannot open these file types and asks me to chose a diffrent program, say notepad, to open them with. I know if I do that though the system will read all of the files of the same type as a notepad file. Is this going to be a problem, or is there another way arounf this predicament?

You HAVE to move the game out of the Program files directory and into it's own directory. I actually use an entirely different drive.

I was. I am now retired (1 month).

Make sure you either change or disable the UAC settings. I just disabled mine. That should solve the rest of your problems.

You can always uncheck "Always use this program to open this kind of file" if you right-click and use "Open with", but in any case it shouldn't give you any problems using notepad

I just went through the whole thing your now doing...

1) The other fellows are right, put it another folder (like C / games / Ubi / IL2 1946..

2) I set the exe to, run in 32 bit mode. Do this by right clicking the exe file and click the "compatibility" tab, ect...

3) I also had trouble changing my config file (everytime I changed something it would revert back to original settings when I started the game), so I found it impossible to run in "perfect" mode. To fix this I right clicked on the Il2 file and un-clicked "read-only" (for everything in the file too)... BUT more importantly I had to set "full control" for System, "me", "me & administrator", and any and all users... I went through every level of "permissions" and set the security setting to "full control" everywhere I could...THIS seemed to fix the problem (at last).

I'm not saying you will have these problems...but you could. If you find that Vista is giving you problems like these and I have not made myself "clear"...just ask. Smile

I have vista on 64 bit too, its easy, everytime u modify air.ini for exapmle or anything like it that u can open with notepad, make sure to save as then save on desktop. After that copy the air.ini or whatever file u had and paster(and replace) the one in program files.
