Maraz, thank you again, for such a wonderful model! I keep trying to register on the Red Devils' site, and continue to get the same message that they '..cannot create an account for me today' I will keep trying to register because I know that it will be necessary for further updates on the Swordfish. Can you ask the site admin to take a look into this?

Great plane but mine seems a little "blocky". Should I increase my screen resolution?

Excellent!

I thoroughly enjoy this plane. We (My squad) hopes everything is finished for the release of the next UI.

This plane helps to come closer to finishing a pretty firm Mediterranean set.

Of course, if we could get the author to throw in the SM.79, us Mediterranean fans would be in hog heaven!

Thanks again for this wonderful plane!

Quality work!

The SM.79 will come, Maraz has assured me. We must be patient. The SM.79 team is much larger and the work is more complex with the SM.79 than the Swordfish so expect it to take significantly longer to get to release. I'm sure they are working out bugs as we speak. I'm looking forward to some of the other med stuff they are working on as well like the Fulmar, G.55 and Re.2000.

Cheers,

Why should we bother busting our backs, with the stress of policing every post to make sure there aren't links to other sites, that openly thwart our rules & views, that are there to keep the community safe? Why should we try and keep certain aspects secret, and safe? Why should we continuously get treated like the bad guys? Why should we watch as you people take our good names, go behind our backs, and make snarky, hateful, little comments? Well, to be quite frank - we shouldn't. Why should we try to help the community, when the community does its best to thwart what we try to do.

Why not open the door for the community so they can get this great aircraft, which is much needed? Perhaps establishing the fact that if this works, and nothing goes to crap, we can let our guard down and establish "free trade", so to speak, with the rest of the community? We trust these guys, so we let this happen, while we continue to do what we must to try and keep it safe. Do you honestly think we didn't vet this decision through and through? The rule is still there, this is one of the rare exceptions to it - due to the partnership we have entered with the Red Devils.

Its not going to kill you to sign up there, and help them with the beta is it? Why go out on the limb and sign up? It would take the time it took you to write even one of those posts, I mean, that is after all the only thing the authors are really asking of us...

[/rant]

Profound statement Mags.. I for one totally agree! After all's said and done.. we ALL benefit from the partnership surely. It took me a couple of minutes to sign up and D/L the 'Stringbag' So, what's difficult about that?

6S.Maraz,

This is just a wonderful model. The plane handles well and it is a true joy to fly. In the spirit of a Beta test, I wanted to offer some feedback.

I tried to deploy flaps, and they worked (message displayed), which the Swordfish did not have, and it felt like it affected the flight model, even though there was no visual queue from the model. That is the only feedback on the handling part.

Concerning the observer seat, I wonder if it would be possible for the release version to have a crew position for the observer. The observer position had both a camara mounting bracket, as well as a sliding bomb aiming hatch. I got that info from a cutaway drawing of a Mk II, so I am not sure if that applies to the MkI. I believe that a position similar to some of the other bombers where there is a bombsight would be good enough.

I second the motion of adding 8x 60 pound rockets to the load, and it also had depth charges as a choice, but this is just a note.

Again, thank you for this great addition.

Can't wait for the release version

Best Regards

Depth charges would be cool, not for just this plane but for the PBY and any other planes that historically carried and deployed them. It would be a great mod in and of itself. Of course being able to sink submerged subs with them would be great too but I have a feeling that borders on the impossible with the IL-2 engine.
I have a doable I believe request, could we get the flares as a separate loadout so the Swordfish could be used in a purely pathfinder role?

This is a great plane. Congrats to the Red Devils!

A little feedback - it would be great if the AI could release flares like bombs, rather than rockets - that is, not in a dive firing at the target - as it is, the AI releases the flares so close to the ground that they burn out after only a few seconds and barely light anything. The only alternative is to get someone online to drop them (I don't play online), or drop them yourself, but who wants to be the flare-dropper in a single player mission?

How about sticking the flares in a bomb-only slot so the AI will drop them over a target area at altitude, like the Mossie does?

Real Swordfish didn't have physically separate flaps, instead ailerons were used as flaps. That's exactly what happens in our virtual Swordfish too, and you can see it nicely on the externals.

I'd one more time rather like to point out the absolute lack of any kind of leaks when plane takes damage - there is no oil or fuel leak even when absorbing massive amount of .303 bullets all over the plane. It's not hard to destroy the plane tho - it's structural integrity seems rather weak (wings or tail fall off easily, that's probably correct for such a biplane), and it also seems prone to explosions, more so than other planes.

I have been watching this airplane being created and looking at the final,
it is simply stunning!! Fantastic job on this plane. SUPERB!! Congratulations!!
I will have to try it out soon.

The problem of linking the flares to the bomb command is that, as a player, you would have no control wheter firing a bomb or firing a flare. Maybe (as someone suggested) we could make a bombload with flares only. But I doubt that this loadout option (flares only) did actually exist. I will think about that.

About rockets, these were carried by Mk.II version, while this one is MkI.

We are preparing a new beta with some bug fixes (mainly DM and FM) that will be ready in few days.

S! All,

Gotta agree with the previous posts.. extolling the handling characteristics of the 'Stringbag'. Fine piece of work 6S.Maraz.

Thank you Big Grin

Still can't get to download properly....When I download, it is in HTML format. Do I need something other than winrar, 7zip, winzip etc to open? Is it to be installed from an html doc? Thanks for any help you can offer.

Thanks for the reply Maraz. I think having one loadout that is flares only, so that AI could use them properly, would really help add immersion to this plane and make for some really interesting night missions. Even if the loadout isn't quite historical, Swordfish dropped flares at Taranto and on ASW patrols regularly, so I think that's the important thing.

Cheers!
