Spitfire IXe with 25 lb boost
#1

I have had a look through the threads but didnt see this anywhere.

Has anyone considered doing a mod for the Spitfire IXe and IXe clipped so that they can run 25 lb boost engine? Would it be much work to do this? Id be surpised if someone hadnt mentioned this before!

Anyhoo, just an idea. I had it whilst finding the C wing armament on a SPit 25 pretty pitiful when try to shoot down a 410 just now on a server. Would be nice to have those .50 cals as well as the cannon.

Naturally the 410 rear gunner destroyed my spit with a single shot....Grrrr

Meh no offense but I think the Quarter pounder we have is Uber enough.

I've always wondered why there wasn't a Mk XVI in the game. From what I've read it was the most used late war Spitfire.

Well we have one now.

Also if you want a mod such as this, Back it up with proof that there was a 25lb's boosted IXe and IXe CW.

Actually AFAIK we have the Spitfire Mk XIV in 2 versions, but we do not have the Spitfire Mk XVI, which is actually close to the Mk IX if I am not mistaken (Merlin Spitfire).

My dream would be a Spitfire Mk XVI with a bubbletop canopy, the most elegant Spitfire version IMHO (she does not have the bulges on the nose nor the big radiators under the wings like the later Griffon Spits).

I know we have a mod putting a bubbletop canopy on the Spitfire, but... the back is flattened, there are holes and it cannot replace a truly reworked 3D Model like it has been done for the Mk XII/XIV, which are really nicely done.

After late November 1944 the allies started using 150 Octane fuel in europe (it was in use since march 1944 for some units based in the UK) This 150 Octane fuel allowed ALL Spit IXs (and Spit XVIs) to run at 25lb boost with only a minor modification to the throttle quadrant. Also the SPit XIVs with griffons could run at 21lbs with this fuel

Hence technically all models of Spit IX could/ should have a 25 lb model.

this link to the aricraft performance website gives a good run down on the use of 150 grade fuel, scroll down to the bit about it entering service with the RAF.
