Crash when saving .ntrk saves - why?
#1

Argh! After one-hour long mission (I hate using time compression or time speed), no autopilot but excellent formation flying and 3 FW-190 kills (and an amazing zoom&boom by a 190 that killed me) I tried to save the excellent mission - game crashed...
I have this problem regardless of map, whther or not I'm shot down or not, whether I'm using a modded or default in-game plane... it's getting very irritating. I notice it usually happens when the mission is longer or there are lots of objects, especially planes. But sometimes short missions crash, too.

Anyone has any idea what causes this and how t could be fixed? It's getting annoying, I want to, but I don't dare to save a mission track in fear the sim will crash and I'll have to replay it...

Messer, i'm a bit confused on one point. you say you tried to save the mission afterwards, and it crashed?
if so, you aren't recording an ntrk, but a trk file.
afaik, you can't save a mission as an ntrk afterwards, only as a trk.
to record an ntrk, you need to be recording from the beginning of the mission.
that said, many people, myself included, have similar issues with recording tracks. no-one seems to know exactly what causes it, but one thing is common throughout, and that is that it happens randomly/occasionally.
what i would do in a mission like the one you describe, is to leave out the long flight times, and only record the section which will have the most action/whatever part you're looking to record. 8)

Sorry, I didn't know there was a diffrence. I'm wondering, does this problem occur if I start manually recording from the beggining and save before the end of the mission (again manually) rather the the "Save Track" after the mission is over?

As for the recording bit... well, I love the immersion you get when you record from the mundane take-off and formation flying and suddenly you're in the thick of a fight! Besides, I show off to my friends who play arcade sims! Tongue

well, what i do(and this is after several years of figuring these things out) is to assign a key to 'Record/Stop Rrcording Track'. then, get in the habit of recording from the start of a mission. you will see a hud message 'recording quick000 started/stopped', something like that, as a visual indicator that it is working.
In my experience, i've never had a crash doing it this way. You can try it, and see what happens. You could also just hit the record/stop button to get the parts/clips you want, so your end result would be to have one long mission, but broken up into several smaller ntrk files.
another very common problem with trk files, is that they don't actually record the mission as it happened.
for example, i played a quick mission where i downed 3 Stukas in quick succession (1 long burst) and was so impressed with myself, i decided to save it afterwards. in the replay, i start firing at the first Stuka, and then promptly fly straight into the 2nd one!!! Wtf, you say? it happens. trk recording is not recommended.
this (almost)never happens if you record an ntrk.
yet another reason to record ntrk, and not trk, is that the chances of your mates being able to watch it on their machines is slim to none - the trk files aren't compatible with different versions of the game, etc.
Ntrk does not have this problem. so, ntrk wins hands down in either case.
All i can say is to try what i suggest, and see how that goes for you
post again if you're still having problems.

Hi Messer!

bigbossmalone is absolutely right in all points,
I had the same troubles with afterwards saving a record.

I have assigned ALT-R for start/stop recording,
thats easy and OK (if I do not forget it... :???: )

bigbossmalone thanks man! I also noticed that on the trk files there's some odd bug and they're rarely the same as the original...sometimes it turns out nice, but most of the time the planes simply dive down and crash or kamikaze one-another!

I'll try with the manual. Alt-R seems to be free on my settings. Thanks folks! Big Grin

PS. Replayed that Biggin Hill mission - again 3 kills, one was a 109 this time. Smile
