Control the pilot in the ground

Totaly agree.

Annoying the annoying, so you don't have to.

... eh for us offliners i could think of one or two nice feature this thing could be useful for

land behind enemy lines .... run to designated point ... pick spy data / enigma machine .... run back to your plane ... RTB

perfect for Storch missions

just my opinion

actually, there was an arcade style flight sim that did that. The ground bits did work, but only because the detail on the ground was really rather good, more in depth than IL2 could offer.

... who knows , already we have infantry mod ( better looking soldiers) and new vehicles which look rather good up close.

i'm not trying to argue here but i would really like such mod ... i'm weird i know ... i used to "sail" ruffe just for see sighting coast / harbors (for hours at the time )

Well, that's fair enough, and if someone's willing to give it a try, then they should ignore those who say it might not work and prove us wrong! I'd be interested to see the mod in action, and if done right, it could be very good indeed. Trouble is, i think that it'd take a very skille dmodder to get it right.

... i do admit that there are more "important" mods , or more relevant ones so i'm hopping when those are finished someone will crack this one up too .

Yeah, I see where you're coming from, but having some experience in the 'games/mods which try to do everything' field I'm extremely apprehensive when it comes to adding anything that isn't flying into Il-2. The fact of the matter is that even with the tech we have now, it's virtually impossible to make a game that does everything well. Games like GTA have shooting, driving, flying, and sailing, but they're not especially realistic; Battleground Europe and the Battlefield series had everything, too, but in the case of the former it didn't work out so well (some aspects were realistic, others arcadey) and we all know that the Battlefield series was anything but realistic. Even RO, ArmA and company come up a little short in at least one aspect (tanks and flying, respectively - RO's tank combat is stymied rather seriously by the limitations of the engine it was built on, and flying fixed-wing AC in ArmA 1 and 2 is a nightmare).

Il-2 is still top dog of the WWII flight sims as far as I've seen, but it's already limited enough in what the ground units themselves can do and in any case the level of detail on the ground is seriously inadequate for most purposes besides blowing up, landing, or bailing out. Dropping agents, paras and glider troops who do more than simply stand there would be great, but I'd rather be flying them in, not playing as them myself.

@rossmum : i hear you ... but game limitations are what they are and i will use such mod no matter what . Its really the same as it is with maps and elevated rivers ( inland ) , they are ugly and they are useless ( ships...) cos of game limitations but we all have learned to live with it .

as for where i come from : Spitfire (commodore 64) / Dam busters (C64) ... Aces over Europe / Pacific (DX64) ... Airwarrior / EAW / CFS2 ... but sure i have enjoyed Doom/Duke ... Wolfenstein ....Carmageddon and GTA too ;-)

I admit that a mod like this could become something far of the spirit of the sim, but like others things in life one thing is use and another abuse. From be beginning of this sim you could look for a "realistic" combat or for example use a me262 to make a massacre against 12 C47 dakota. None of this options is bad, just an election of the player.
On the other hand if this is a sim and if it simulates WW2 combats (it does very well indeed), then a part of the combats is to be shoot down, bail out and try to not be captured. As simple as that.
If it is possible (in a raw way it has been done jet) to make such mod IMO it should be an ethical matter. If the mod someday is avalaible it can be the choose of the player use it or not or abuse it or not.

Salutes to all and sorry for my english (a very funny thing has happened in my holydays in Belgium -everytime I speaked in english to somebody to ask something most of the people told me "
