Losing MODS Engine Sounds
#1

I have run into a problem with losing my UI engine sounds and reverting back to the default engine sounds. All the other sounds are fine just the engine sounds keep droping out. I even went so far as to reinstall UI 1.1 and the Patch. The game starts fine with the new sounds then the default sounds come back.

I have the latest A/C 3.8 installer, but I don't think that has anything to do with it. I did install the Beta Swordfish, but when I notived the sounds problem, I removed the plane and reinstalled the UI.

I am at a loss. Any help is appreciated.

hmmmm......tricky one..... :?
you say the sounds are initially modded ones, and then the defaults come back?
at which point exactly does this happen? can you test a bit more, or is it a case of the defaults kicking in and staying on?
so, if you exit and restart the game, do you start with modded sounds, or does it stay with the defaults? or, does it start with modded sounds each time, and then the defaults kick in?
also, what OS are you using?

I have a similar problem with engine sounds but in my case only on the P-40 series aircraft, the sound keeps fading and returning but the length of time varies. Very annoying, I have the game modded to the latest installer and patch.

Would be nice to find a cure for this.

All the best, Pete Sad

Okay, let me take it from the top. When I first noticed the default sounds had returned, I was playing an online game. I at that point reinstalled the UI. I then tested the install with an offline mission and the sounds were fine. I then went back to playing online and the first mission was fine, but when the I joined the second mission, the default engine sounds were back and stayed even after leaving the game and restarting. Even thought if I restarted my PC that might fix it, but no. Then I reinstalled the UI again, but this time the defaults sounds started right off. My OS is XP.

As I said in my original post, I did not have this problem until after I installed the Beta Swordfish. After that, my enigine sounds, and I don't understand this, ONLY my engine sounds are the default sounds even though when I check my Samples folder in the Files folder, all the UI modded sounds are there and play fine individually, but will not work in game.

that sound like a buttons problem. what aircraft uses what engine sounds come from the buttons file. So do a search of your entire IL2 folder, see if there are more than one buttons lurking. then go unpack AC installer 3.8, and go make sure you select the buttons for UI, and replace yours with it. Also, check if you have installed any soundmods over your UI installation, like SFX, or English Sound Mod or whatever.

Well you were right. I had copies of the buttons file in a couple of folders in the Files folder as backups and I guess that was what was causing the trouble. Never even thought of that. Thanks a heap.
