Keeping different aircraft in formation
#1

I've searched and read the FMB and know how to make aircraft fly in formation (that's not players aircraft) and it works. However, I've been having trouble keeping Camera Ship in formation with my B-17's. I want to get some good shots, but it always flies ahead. I believe it's just a B-25 without polygons if I remember. The set speed is 450 for all bombers. The waypoints are all the same..am I missing anything?

Check the camera ship can indeed fly at 450 (I'm guessing km/h, right ? ) and that the bombers do also fly at that speed. Wouldn't surprise me if those B-17s flew slower when fully loaded. The FMB doesn't take loadout into account an so will allow you to set waypoints at at the aircraft's sleak configuration whereas in game it will be slowed down by bombs etc...

Set one of the B-17s as the player aircraft, fly in autopilot with 8x speed and see what maximum speed the bombers reach. Go back to FMB and change the speed for each waypoint 5 km/h above that speed. That should fix it.

Two things.

Are you setting the planes' speed at 450 km/h? That will cause unpredictable results. Use a realistic B-17 (or toher bomber) crusing speed.

However, even that fix will probably not work; at least I have never been able to keep planes together using manually set waypoints. I have had success though, using the Quick Mission Tuner (QMT). Create the fomration you want to follow, then use QMT to create a duplicate flight. Then, set the duplicate to hold your observation aircraft.

As he said, try lower speeds like 320kph.
