If you like unrealism, good request, but that's just pyrotechnic effect, that's how napalm explodes in movies, it's not even close to real life.

I think that the napalm the Skyraider is dropping in your video is a mixture of napalm and white phosphorus, which would account for the long trails of fire on the leading edge of the explosion and the big white clouds which linger after the blast. World War II napalm - just jellied gasoline without WP - is a bit closer to the original poster's picture, but a bit more subdued.

Very brief clip of Corsairs dropping napalm on Okinawa.

Sadly, I don't think it is possible to create enormous napalm fireballs, since there are only a limited number of fire and explosion effects in the game. Altering a particular effect so that it looks just right for napalm might make it look totally unrealistic for some other explosion or fireball.

Potenz and Holy Grail worked very hard to come up with smoke and fire effects which look realistic within the limitations of the game, so you might find their discussions of what's possible to be useful. The smoke and fire effects they came up with are also quite good. Download and thread here:

The napalm used in Vietnam, wasn't actually napalm. It was actually Napalm-B which consists of low-octane gasoline with benzene and polystyrene.

Yes gentlemen, war is hell, but this thread is not made to discuss about what war is and isn't, perhaps it was a bad choice of mine to choose that video in particular to show a napalm explosion in vietnam.

Keep on topic about EXPLOSION EFFECTS FOR IL-2, next posts about war being hell or whatever will be deleted.

Thread has been cleaned.

question
the ww2 us napalm bombs were converted droptanks made from aluminium correct
what caused them to detonate was it the impact with the ground causing sparks or did they fit some kind of detonator inside the droptank
