New PC?
#1

Hi,
I'm going to order a new gaming computer of ebay. Before I was using my dads laptop(doesn't even have a video card!) just wanted your opinions.

Here are the specs:

Nvidia Geforce 9800GT
Intel core 2 duo 2.53 GHz overclocked to 3.33 GHz
500GB HD
4GB DDR2 memory

Could this computer run IL-2 1946 on perfect settings with very high frame rates?

Thanks,

... you'll be fine on win7 64 and Vista 64 ( service pack2) too ...

i have dual boot install ( Vista 64 ultimate + s/p 2 and Win7 64 ultimate 7127 ) and Il2 works pretty good (+ freetrack ) on both

Dual core 2.6 E5300
MB gigabyte EP45-DS3 ( pci exp x16 generation 2)
4 Gb DDR2
gigabyte NV 9800GT 512 ( pci exp x16 generation 2)
600W PSU

just make sure you have proper settings for your system , Nvidia and IL2

latest drivers (NV)
latest beta dll's
direct x9c
java

That system should be fine for Il2:1946. Overclocked and it will be stunning.

...eh, got one question Liamp51,youre talking about an intel core default 2.53 Ghz ocied to 3.33Ghz ?!! I dunno about you but thats 'diehard 'overclocked . never heard about a store thats willing to do that on a brand new rig even when they supply it with water cooling, ...so assuming this is a second hand rig than i would be verry carefull and thinking more than twice before buying it because the cpu can be coocked, so be carefull m8

It's a brand new PC but I was a little suspicious about that too. I am thinking about another one that has the same specs except that the processor is an intel core 2 duo default 3.0GHz overclocked to 3.6GHz. Problem is that its about 130$ more than the other oneSad. Plus shipping's moreSad. Man! But if I can my old ibook I might be able to counter the extra price. Owell.

Thanks keep them them coming!

1st. Thats some serious overclocking they did with that cpu as most of the time a 200mhz oc would be considered a good achievement, thats nearly a 1ghz oc so that will be putting a tremendus strain on the cpu, it will have a reduced lifespan aswell. I think that cpu is too overclocked for what i would like.

2nd. Many people use overclocking as a market stunt charging more money for a computer with an Oc cpu than the same pc without any overclocking, the reason this is bad is because you could be paying for something that isnt worth the price.

My advice is keep looking... If you have the cash and your a rich kid then take a look at AlienWare pc's or Dell XPS pc's.
