dvd drive and 2nd install for mods
#1

I have IL2 installed and patched to 4.08 version. Works fine.

I wanted to make a 2nd install of IL2 for the purpose of having it modded. Now my dvd drive decides it doesn't want to cooperate and will not read my disc. I also tried placing the disc into the cd drive hoping it would read it, no such luck. My pc either doesn't show a disc in the tray (dvd tray), or, the pc locks up until I dis-engage the tray. I know......it's time for a new, faster, more souped up unit. Soon. But until then I'm wondering if there is a workaround? Meaning, since I have IL2 installed "clean", is it possible to just simply COPY that folder from (c: program files/ubisoft/IL2) and place it into (c:ubisoft/IL2), and would it work as a 2nd install by doing so? Otherwise I'll just keep trying the dvd tray until such time as luck comes my way.

Any advice, or, any other suggestions for a workaround would be appreciated. I wish I knew how to determine what the problem is with the dvd drive but I'm not that pc savvy.

IL2-1946?And if so why don't you just download and install the Universal Installer with the mods swichers, that way you could turn mods off when ever you want.

go to program files/ubisoft/IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 and copy and paste
the entire folder to the new location - call it something else ie 1946 modded
and add the mods to that folder.

Thank you both for your replys. And yes, I should have mentioned 1946.

I didn't realize the universal installer has a switch so I'll give that a try, but, I like the idea of keeping a totally clean copy so I'll copy/paste the current IL2 1946 folder as mentioned. If it works by copying then I'll use the installer for that installation. I'm just wondering, now, if the .exe must be renamed if moving (copying/pasting)?

Thank you both, again.
