Additional creative resources are a great asset as long as there is coordination and most importantly, STANDARDIZATION. I'm sure this is already being worked on in the background here, but as long as the various modders agree to a standard of work, a format of their submissions, and a clearing house to keep track of new releases and insure that the needed edits are included in the buttons and aircraft installers it can be a very positive result. Losing talented people like Jolly is not a positive thing overally especially since it seems to have happened on less that good terms. But with some effort and cooperation the community should be capable of more than it was before with the additional resources.

The problem is not with Sea Fury itself. Some people seem to have trouble with losing sound for certain other planes when they install the SAS buttons over the AAA UI install.

As far as i've been told the SAS folks are working to rectify this problem. But at the moment there are compatibility issues between SAS and AAA mods.

Creativity and discipline are difficult to mix but a way has to be found. I fully agree with some posts that it is getting out of hand. One of the great things with Il2 is the possibility to fly together on the net. Up to now, this worked out just fine with all the switch functions ( CTR2/ MODS, 6-Dof/, 4.09 with/without mods).

Has anybody tried to fly with those SAS buttons on the net? It is just a mess... Having installed some of the new planes I experienced similar problems (why I don't know as they should have a new slot)...

Even more frightening are the differences in FM if you switch from AAA buttons to SAS buttons....

On the long run, this might break up this community. Cry

The message is : WORK TOGETHER!

And keep up the quality we were used to with Mr Jolly....no new mod half finished with a bunch of patches coming out every two days...otherwise those who are not as computer savy as you are will simple give up ( starting to play more and more ROF which has a nice FM but still too many flaws in its user interface).

Yeah, thanks for that C2, :wink: - most - in fact, ALL of the various modding sites have such related disclaimers, that pretty much answer most of the questions you would need to ask initially.
unfortunately, (and the mod team here at AAA feels it the most) there are many who don't bother to read any of this, and then start posting with questions which have already been answered for them.
This detracts from the time that mods have to actually get on with their first priority, the mods themselves...
I'm a team member at SAS, as many of you will know - and between us, AAA and ALL the other modding sites, we are working towards a solution for the community at large.
Those who had issues this weekend with the SeaFury, Halifax, etc please comment....
All problems were resolved by yesterday, iirc. THe sound problems, buttons problems, all resolved Big Grin
I don't think any modders have promised anyone a 24-hr turnaround time yet... :lol:
None of these sites should be seen as 'competition/us and them' bullcr@p scenario. Its just more practical for the modders to get on with actual modding in smaller teams, without the distractions...
So, as i type this, steps are being taken to further unify the community... Big Grin
Please also realise, folks, that modding consists of choices, and that these choices are often not compatible with each other. This is a fact of modding in general, and definitely not specific to IL2.
So please read what the site (any site you visit, not just this one) has to say about their stuff first, before installing every mod you see, then get a problem, and then post with said problem....this way you are saving the modder the time of having to explain to you that your question is already answered, if you had just taken the time to read first... :wink:

Well said bigbossmalone. I am still a a touch tentative about installing the halifax and the sea-fury, so I think I'll wait into every little bump has been ironed out. I am all for the fact that we are opening our doors, but I want to wait until the modding sites are working eith eachother, so we don't have to belong to a number of different communities; if you get my drift Wink

No sweat man, just felt that the fact that SAS is primarily an offline site and not an online site obviously needed to be pointed out. Seems to be a recurring theme about online conflicts using their button files/mods. As far as conflicts go, this is why I have several copies of IL2 on my HDD. I use one updated to UI v1.1 w/patch v1.1.1 for testing of new and beta mods/aircraft I want to use. If no conflicts arise, then it goes into my modded game file that I use for flying the sim. If there is a conflict there then I know which was the last mod installed so I know which one to remove until I can find the conflict. Winmerge REALLY is your friend! I highly recommend this program to everyone. On top of that I keep a text file of all mods installed by catagory and date of installation.

Other thing is that if you immediately download and install the next thing to come out, the other sites may not be update yet. There will always be a lag time between releases from different sites, unless everything is co-ordinated for release from all sites at the same time. But then, all you would have is a bunch of mirror sites. So, to maintain any sort of variety, folks will just have to understand that not all mods are going to work with other mods. Not being a programmer, I can only imagine the enormity of the task to get all mods from different sites to work with no conflicts. What I've noticed is that you really have to read the posts, not just skim /scan the information. The useful information is usually only one or two sentences long out of a couple of paragraphs. Fortunately I am a fast reader. By the way bigbossmalone, I go by PBoatAvi8tor at SAS.

did i hear that oleg was bringing out a new patch or was that just rumour .just if he was, given that we now have a modding community he may include some thing in it to standardise/ solve /make easier installation of new mods

Some might call it discipline or domination. I call it ...

responsibility

A basic condition for this is the ability to make conscious decisions. There were guys who did not want to go the same way. But you can not be evereybodys darling. In the last years there AAA comunity created some excellent mods. It gave IL-2 a new spirit.

You can not make a historical high quality aircraft in one weekend. We do not have such big teams. If you have read the new policy you whould know that we are trying to bring much more modding teams together. In the beginning most modding communities were seperated from each other but now it is time to put all together.

But do remember, it is the AAA was the one that brought IL2 modding teams apart with some pretty amazing moves. But if you meant with "we are trying to bring much more modding teams together..." as a whole IL2 modding community, I apologise for the above comment.

And as long as AAA will have moderators/administrators that are on one hand saying that each has his right to his personal opinion but in the same time say that, well, hey, this subject is personal for me, so watch it, well, very professional, I'm sure. Too often one gets the feeling that some do not want to move forward.
