Is it possible to create new squadrons to pick from in the full mission builder? for example, the game has the USS Saratoga in it, but no squadrons to go with it. Is there a file i can go to and add my own squadron names?
Well at least it is possible to create squadrons for online play, I added my KG64 there and on servers with skin download on ppl can see the custom squad emblem I added to it. Pick a squadron from the files, duplicate it and modify the text file to fit your squad, then change the duplicated squadron emblem to yours and I think you have to modify one more file but I can't remember what it was.
Look into the "forgotten countries" (or whatever the name is) mod, it adds not only new nations but also new squadrons for existing nations. Even if those that you're looking for aren't in there, you'll be able to easily figure it out how to add them yourself from the files you find in that mod...
