A Question If I May
#1

New to Il-2 1946 so hope you guys can clear some things up for me. I'm trying to get a grip on whats' what. Smile

I've had 1946 (patched to the beta 4.09) for a couple of months and find it rather dull. It's ok for campaigns over Russia, but the terrains (and missions) over Europe or the Pacific are awful. So they're the types of MODS I'm looking for - to imporve terrain generally and lotsa good campaigns.

One kind soul is sending me a copy of the AAA 1.1 UI, but I haven't been able to find here a list or explanation of just what is included in the UI. It is an 'all-encompassing' patch? Will it give me what I'm after? Or do I need to look for specific terrain and campaign mods?

And one other thing that's got me confused is the 'maps' issue. Do they include a campaign, or are they just a map? For example I sure a post about a map for Darwin covering the Japanese raid in 1942. So is it a case of someone has done a map and now someone else (or even the same guy) has to now create a campaign to go with it?

Apologies if the above sounds confused. It's just that I am! Big Grin

The in-game maps are indeed rather dull when compared to some of the maps that have created here and posted on the forum. If you want better looking terrain, different looking terrain, something different in the way of campaign areas and geographical locations, then you

Thanks for the reply agracier, I appreciate it. Smile

So if i understand you correctly, Maps contain new (modded or improved) terrain for a specific region, as well as an actual map for that area. Campaigns are a seperate thing altogether. So I find a map I am interested in, then find a campaign for the same region to marry both together right?

The AAA 1.1 UI contains many of the mods you will want and they all work from the getgo so it is a great time saver. You could spend many months installing these manually. Here is a list of what it includes:

AI Aircraft made flyable (These use cockpits & gun stations from the flyable aircraft)
The majority of these were produced by MrJolly & Additional work by Lt.Wolf

Right as rain. Here is a campaign made for a new map for instance:
