Upgrade: Is it worth it?
#1

So I was wondering why my Il2 game would never run perfect. I set the open gl all the stuff and I realized I needed a new GPU :? .

I have a Dell Dimenson e510 = 5years old Sad . I always wanted to run the perfect water and stuff and though about getting a new psu and GPU.
Current Specs:
Intel Pentuim 4 CPU @ 3.0 ghz
Intel 82495G express Chipset
2gb of RAM.

As of now with most mods, excluding Hi res mods, I can run fine only with a few airplanes in the air, not a whole war or anything. I was hoping to upgrade my psu to a 550 watt psu and a 9600gt. From there would it be possible to run at perfect settings? I only wish to spend around 150 now just to tide my rig over to next year. I plan to get a new rig next year but, is this sufficient enough to run in perfect settings or should I just save up for next time? ( I heard that the water is mainly affected by the cpu? if it is is mine sufficient?

Any feedback would be nice

i have an old dell that's probably that old, but i don't know much about cpu and that. my old computer could only run 12 planes at one time in the air, and that was pushing it. if it was me in your position, i would just save up for when you get a new computer and put a lot of money toward getting really good specs with that.

Whatever you do dont buy parts from dell you get robbed big time.pc parts are much cheaper elsewhere like newegg.com just for exsample.you can build a better pc than what you have fairly cheap.dell tried to rip me off years back on parts so i said screw them and learned to build my own pc.its not hard at all.

Yes I know how dell is really oriented for gaming, or service... Anyway though will buying a new psu and a 9600gt will be able to handle perfect settings? Thats all I REALLY want to know.

I am not totally sure if getting a new PSU and 9600gt is a good upgrade because Pentium 4 might cause a bottleneck

I do agree on a fact that you should save up some money and build a nice modern PC

My old rig was a Dell with 2.53 Intel, 9800 Pro ATI and 1 Gig of Ram with a Sound Blaster Z card. I was able to have at least 75 aircraft flying in a mission using UberDemon. No problem at all.

You really need to checkout your game & rig's settings to optimize IL-2 as it eats up CPU's and it is setup for a single chip CPU. At the time... I can run up too 200 aircraft using the UberDemon program in a mission and I am using perfect settings with my 5yr old FX-57, 7800 GTX KO x 2, 1.5 Gigs of RAM and a X-Fi sound card rig.

Go over your game and graphic's card settings... you should be getting more out of your rig even though it's an older computer.
