Recommended Video Card? HELP!
#1

Hello,

I have 5 year old Dell Dimension 3500 P4 2.8G with 1G RAM and onboard graphics. I want to install a video card, but only have PCI slots - no AGP, no PCI-E. Here are my options:

PNY - Verto NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS 512MB GDDR2 PCI Graphics Card
BFG - NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS 512MB DDR2 PCI Graphics Card
or
PNY - GeForce FX 5200 256MB PCI Graphics Card

Are these compatible with IL-2 1946 and will the bios cause any issues? I'm pretty sure the cache on the motherboard will allow it.

Thanks,

Intrepid

Hi, I don't know about compatibility but I would think that as they're all nvidia, and nvidia does the best opengl support, they should all work. However, I would go for a 512mg one rather than 256 though as it would allow more memory for textures I think.

I have been using the BFG card now for many years. A very good company to work with.

Thanks folks. I ended up going with the Verto NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS 512MB GDDR2, and it flies! What a difference from the archaic on-board processor POS I was running!
