Hi All,

I just checked the WIP thread for the Westland Whirlwind and read at the end of it all that the plane won't be available at AAA, that RAF_Magpie is no longer a leading member at AAA and that the new planes in development, such as the Whirlwind, Lancaster and B-26 Marauder will be released on other websites, requiring other sites' buttons files. I checked the links provided in the whirlwind thread, but for all of them one needs to be registered as a user to get any information.
Could someone here, preferrably an administrator, or somone else knowledgeable on this topic perhaps provide some information in regard to what's going on, or at least direct me to the appropriate sources?
Maybe I am wrong, but all of this creates the impression that the group of people that produced so many awsome additions to the IL-2 game is slowly falling apart and splintering into many small groups.

The best way to handle rumor is to stay away from gossip. Now who is in charge...
The Admins and Moderators who could make it this Saturday left the meeting with this one thought. We the moderators and administrators have a say or a vote on what we do and how we handle issues. Furthermore, it is our intention that we listen more that we act and that when we act, we act as a group.

Now who are the mod Gods? Is it really that important to label someone as a mod God?

Personally I have had the pleasure of working with many on this site and I can tell you that each and every person has something to offer regardless of what their perception is of themselves. True we do have those that are more versed in areas than others but still we need those people to balance the team. No one person can do everything.

Splintering is something that happens in real life and this "hobby" group is not immune to the real world. Strife is something normal as is disagreements, empathy, hate, love and anger. Some might say he's the angry type others might say he's not angry, he's just passionate. Well both statements are true, when people are passionate the tendency is to scoff at people that do not agree with their passion.

Let's step back a bit, while we have had "surprises" they are not any different than when families get together at the holidays. Some eat at piece while others enjoy their meal in pieces during family reunions/eruptions.

This is a fantastic site, which i still believe is the number one site for modders, please tell me all is ok

Now getting to the original post.

What happened to the Westland Whirlwind, Lancaster, etc?

While it is not my business to explain the particulars and report a blow by blow I can be a bit general.

Tempers and stubbornness are traits not conducive to general well being in ANY situation. Unless one really needs to "burn that bridge" as we say here in the US.

Problem was that things were said by one that was not liked by another and as we all know this never turns out pretty. Now if you want the nitty gritty rather than listening to the gossip, I suggest to ask those that participated because I will not post private data on a public forums, period.

As to what happened to those mods is simple, the Author/Authors asked for them to be removed from this site as they will be available on other forum sites one being prime, the RAF 662 site.

The magister and all other mods will and could be included in the Unified installer once they feel the mods are complete and are willing to share with the communities.



I will ask that if you posts on this subject that decorum is adhered.

Its important to keep in mind that the people that are producing these mods are doing it because they enojy doing it on their own time. Looking at the 3D work required for a plane gives you some understanding of the amount of time involved. It also makes me wonder how some of the guys that work so fast actually get these projects done in a few short weeks.. The 2nd key point to realise is that everyone enjoys IL2 differently. I personally fly IL2 ONLINE through Hyperlobby 99% of the time so compatibility and CRT=2 issues are important to me. Someone who enjoys OFFLINE play more may not share my concern and using various buttons files isn't an issue to them. If everyone remains at least civil and is willing to share their efforts then at least everyone gets to enjoy the fruits of their work even though some of the development may be in parallel and not 100% compatible for online play. The end users will decide which versions to use.. Given the ease at which multiple installations can be created in IL2 I see no reason why everone would not have several options to begin with.. try the flavor of the week for all the cutting edge new toys and keep a vanilla version with the latest and greatest UI for online play..

I just find it amusing that as an adult with a career and kids I find myself checking the status of PeterD's F86 and Mig 15 every single day because I'm looking forward to it so much. I'm not paying for it, and I'm getting an immense amount of enjoyment out of watching the development so its really keeping IL2 alive and well while we all wait to see if SOW will ever actually get finished

Salud all and thanks for this thread - it is useful to know where things are at.

Not interested in taking sides at all, but I endorse Monguse's comments that this sort of thing is just part of life. The substantive issue that might need to get sorted out is the buttons file issue. I suggest that the various modding groups out there work towards some sort of a protocol for buttons file development. When you think about the internet, we could not even talk to each other like this without certain protocols having been developed to enable the technology. Maybe the same sort of thing needs to be worked out here...

Just a thought. Thanks for all the great mods - I love 'em all and also enjoyed FabianFred's "Angry Blue Guy" post on other thread tonight. Same debates will continue ad infinitum, I guess. All just part of the fun...

1) The AAA site and Mr. Jolly with his game outbrake, together with you all guys have contributed not only to ameliorate a pc game but also to create the basis for a virtual WWII Air Museum. this sort of virtual museum recreates a world 65 years old rich in history and courage.

2) In this virtual museum it's possible not only to fly like in real life a/c that in reality won't fly anymore.......it's possible to feel almost the same feelings pilots of those days felt.

3) The effects, the planes, ships, maps and other things that you all recreated bring with them the memory of bygone days, memory we should never forget.

4) Either if we are online players or not it doesn't matter as long as we will succed in keeping this modded game available to all and, most of all, if we succed in making all mods compatible one another.

keep the good work going......our living museum deserves all you effort. thanks again

Just my little opinion here.

I love all the hard work put in by every one, really, thank you alot. Give your self a pat on the back cause they all need it, Jolly, Wolf, Magpie etc.

But I request, people. If a modder, moves his work, dont start a roaw. They have full right to move or do what ever with there work. One person already started on Magpie, and im not name any one.

All I would like, and im sure every one here would as well is that all the mod sites make their Buttons file with ours. Tis' all.

Wow, what an overwhelming response to my post! Thanks everybody for their replies. I was just looking for some clarification with my post and di not intend to take sides or incite any anger. Of course, I realize that all the fantastic additions to IL-2 that are offered here for free are the fruit of lots of dilligent research and hard work, all provided by the mod-authors in their spare time. I am certainly grateful for that. It's just that I found recent developments confusing and difficult to follow. So, thanks again for clearing some of this up.
