I am a bit confused,there is this Unified Installer and also an AC installer.What one do i need to add Mods,skins and extras?

Just read and follow the instructions written in the unified installer download section.

You should get UI 1.1 and then start wondering what to get from there, as there are lots of mods, with various install methods as well as stages of development.

If you want it to be trouble free for yourself while you get used to the process, stay well away from manual install mods, I have reinstalled my game many a time because I didn't listen to the guys that told me that...

so in short:

UI - latest version
only download mods from NON-WIP sections, such as the new aircraft section.
only download mods that come with automatic installers.

if not:

prepare to reinstall, frequently
grey hair and/or loss of said hair...

I am also new here, though I'm not new to flying, I've been flying in CFS3 for like 5 years and only now that I got a new system have I installed IL-2...wonderful sim with TONS of planes and a wonderful and very organized modding community.

Can't say the same about CFS3 since mods are scattered around many websites. its very hard to reach any modder and aircraft mods are scarce and far between.

Only hardship I'm finding in IL-2 is the chase view, in CFS3 plane stays static as if it had a camera stuck to it and in IL-2 the plane moves (which makes me crash :oops: ) but I'm slowly getting used to it.

tmhippo7: Do as ArcticViper said and only add manual installs when you're more familiar with the IL-2 file structure or when you're ready to do reinstalls
