3D anyone?
#1

Has anyone tried to run IL-2 in stereoscopic 3D using nVidia GPU's and LCD monitors? I am working on getting IL-2 going on Windows 7 (which I understand is doable) and was thinking of investing in the 3D setup that nVidia sells but IL-2 is not shown as being tested by nvidia. I was wondering if anyone is currently using 3D to play this game?

I read about it a couple weeks ago.

Did a bit of investigating.

You have to have a special 120hz monitor. Only VisionTek and Samsung making it as 22" LCD monitor $300.

The nVidia Glasses $200

It will probably be best go to wait until retailers have them available for testing in store.

3D has been a troublesome thing since it's inception.

Even today you can't test the trackIR in stores. Retailers don't want problems so you can count on this one thing.

If the big retailers don't offer a gamer tool, it probably is problematic.

im messin with 3D right now
since Im on ati, I using IZ3d drivers (free)
and the red green glasses
works fine
win 7, ati 4870 , reg lcd
glitch, as of now, it only works in
DX
Its worth a test to see if you like it
I got the glasses at block buster for $0.15

excellent! i think it's worth a try...i used 3D a few years ago but that was with CRT's and not LCD's. It was pretty good then (another game i won't mention) but the lure of flying in IL-2 in 3D is too strong. I am going to try the paper glasses first and if I can get that working, I'm springing for the nvidia full package; monitor, etc., although that means downsizing from the current monitor I have. Oh well, guess i'll have to make more desk space for my 2nd monitor...

btw, moxi, chi stand for chicago? I'm near there....

YES CHI,
for Chicago, Im really in aurora (waynes world town)
My group is also flying rise of flight
and since the graphics excellent, 3D is spectacular
But ROF is a little glitchy, and the IZ3d, although seeming very stable
puts a load on the cpu.
The reason I mention this, if your comfortable, with messin with programs
go for it, I had a situation where I didn't turn off the drivers, and could not get back to desk top
so do a proper back up, Ive got a bunch of my boys flying 3D, each with there
opinion's, about how good it is for combat, but its great for just flying around.
Like anything along this kinda thing, you gotta play with it
Good Luck

excellent! i'm further south, down Minooka way....not familiar with ROF, will have to check that out. As far as CPU load, well, I built my PC from the ground up for gaming purposes. xp64 bit (Windows 7 on 2nd drive), 12G RAM, triple SLI, iCore7 so it better be able to handle the load!

I need to get IL-2 working on windows 7 as 3D is not supported on XP; so far no luck but I haven't spent an afternoon working on it yet, just tried a cursory install. From what I've heard, there are threads that show how to install and get working on Windows 7 although I think I've done the steps listed.

From my earlier experience with 3D using the CRT, while I certainly like the 3D immersion, I stopped using it cuz I couldn't read the chat....is that a problem on your system? I don't typically log onto teamspeak or ventrilo servers, I prefer to lurk and chat in-game.

I'll look for you in-game; thx for help!

The load certainly is not that big for your comp (LOL)
I just built a new rig also, I just transferred, my il2 folder
from my old box to the new, stuck it in programs(x86)
ran a compatibility ck , no prob
ROF is a cpu intensive sim, I went a little low on my cpu
for me load is an issue, Im at the min. for ROF
your i7 will just wail
The stuff like chat, speed bar, throttle, etc
should be fine, but its in 2d, so its in front
Like if you fly with tags on, the plane is 1/2 mile away
but the tags are a 1/4 mile away
the IZ3d works on XP no sweat
you gotta just try it, you ll be fine
