As the name suggests, I cannot get IL2:1946 to work on a windows vista (64) laptop. Is there a patch to make it work; does anyone have any suggestions to make it work? I'd cry if i can't use it on my new laptop y'see... Cry

Cheers, people!

Cannot get to work as in I installed it, but it won't actually start. If you double click its icons, or run from the dvd menu or auto run, the computer simply whirrs the disc then does nothing.

Try this m8:

firstly, unistall.

The go to c:_program files and make a folder titled something like *Sim game* or something along those lines. In the folder, create another one and title that Il-2 Modded. Put the il-2 disk in and then search the files on the disk an run the a.exe installer. Point the installer to this new folder. Il-2 will (should) install.

It worked for me. Wink

maybe you graphic card is not supported? that would be awful!

i had the same problem with another game on my old pc, the copyprotection checked the dvd, a short black screen and then desktop Sad

after i intalled the patch it worked, but i dont think they will include new graphic cards on the 4.09 Sad

my manual says that: laptop models of the graphic cards are not supported completely :?

Many thanks, I'll give that a go. It's not the installing that's the issue, it's running the bloody thing afterwards... :S

I had similar problems on 32 bit. Moggy, see the above link. There is a lot of info there that helped me Wink The problem is that vista has so much security, running certain applications is very hard.

I've binned UAC (it was hacking me off anyway) and i'm unistalling IL2 at the moment. I've an ati hd4530 too, i remembered the card's make. Many thanks for the advice, people!

I have an ATI as well (although not exactly the same one as yours). They are a nice range of cards though, I prefer the way they render detail than the nvidia ones as I find the ATI ones a lot more realistic. However, it is a hassle getting IL-2 to run in perfect mode....

Moggy,

I'm running IL2 on Vista x64 with NP. Here is EXACTLY how to install/run it.

1.) As was stated, uninstall the game and delete the old directory of it exists.
2.) Open the CD/DVD using the explore function and run the a.exe. (this is the actual installer)
3.) When installing the game, either install it to a completely different HD or put it into a completely different folder other than Program Files(x86). If you let it install into the default directory, Vista will cause problems for you when saving your conf.ini settings as Vista protects all system files within that directory.
4.) Right click on the icon for IL2 and click the compatibility tab. Check the box labeled "Run in XP SP2" mode.

That should get you running again.

UAC was invented for people who don't even know how to use a computer properly, the first thing I did when I installed Vista was deactivate that, it's completely useless, it just annoys you and even gets things worse.

I'm running on Vista 64-bits too, just follow what Jinxx said and everything should be fine.

But hey Jinxx, I installed it on the default (x86) folder, yes, it didn't want to let me edit the conf.ini, still, I cracked it open anyway, I don't remember how, but I did, now I can edit any of Sturmoviks' files without it complaining.

no luck, it just doesn't want to run. It's installed in c:\Games and Stuff\Ubisoft but it's not having any of it. It just won't run.

The only time Il2 has acted like that for me was when the resolution was not set correctly. It might be worth running il2setup.exe or setting things manually in the conf.ini.

Good luck getting it sorted out, it seems unlikely that the graphics card you have isn't capable of running Il2.
