Converting Il2 4.09 etc to 'accept' mods.
#1

Good day,
I'm a relative newcomer to AAS and had lurked at AAA for some time. Myself and my small coop group are still using IL2 1946 4.09m (no mods). We're waiting for TD's 4.10 to come out before making the leap to the world of modded Il2.

I have to confess however I am somewhat confused about what, exactly, the modded version of 4.09m et al is. I've seen HSFX, SAS and all sorts of discussions on various mods but at the moment I'm at a loss as to where to start.

I was under the impression that HSFX was the initial application required to begin adding any other mods but now I'm not so sure.

In short, where do you begin????. What are the initial steps/procedures required to convert/permit Il2 1946 to accept and use all these mods?????

Apologies if this is asking the obvious. Any advice is appreciated.

Basically it's a personal decision between installing a mod-pack (which contains a lot of mods) or a mod-installer which allows you to download and add mods you want.

All are ready to install over a 4.09 version of the game Wink

Thanks for the info.
I'm quite familiar with JSGME mod enabler (I have SH3 and SH4) so that makes sense.

Is there a thread which describes each mod pack?

cheers,

Not that I am aware of (speaking of which, such a topic would be a good idea. In the summer I may have to write such an article up....)

But basically HSFX 4.1 is a mod pack (which used JSGME)

And Utltrapack 2.01 is HSFX-4.1 but with more mods and edited FM's on some planes (with a switcher to switch back to HSFX defaults IIRC) Wink
SO in a nutshell that's it Big Grin

I would recommend UltraPack or HSFX, they work well online, they are easy to install & use and really fast compared to my custom install.

Thanks again.

Dumb question time; where can I get HSFX? I look in that forum and all I see are tons of threads for mods to use WITH HSFX but I don't see an actual link to the HSFX itself!

HSFX 4.1 is included with UltraPack 2.01 .. suggest getting the full install via the torrent file / bittorent

UP 2.01 has JSGME , a separate UltraPack switcher that will switch to HSFX 4.1 without the UP changes
UP 2.01 is the only place to get Zuti MDS 1.13

Easy to switch back to 4.09m stock

You can fly on almost any public server or coop in HL with UP 2.01 provided you know which mods to enable

I'm just coming from an online player's perspective, however I have found UP 2.01 to be a magnitude step up in mod packages, I couldn't even run all the loose files of UI1.8 on my P4 .. the break through for both HSFX and UP 2.01 is most files are compressed back into the game's .SFS files, so the mods load faster and it seems to me at least, there are less loading pauses in game

OK I guess I must be missing something (apart from braincells).
I can't seem to find UltraPack 2.01. I looked in the IL2 mods forum but again, tons of posts regarding mods but not the big one so to speak.

What exactly is Zuti MDS 1.13 and why would I need it?

cheers,
Tomoose

PS: I found il2war site and the UP2.01 by googling.
It says "Download links for UP 2.01 patch (Requires that UP 2.0n already be installed)" and yet there's no current link for UP 2.0n!!!
